Mr. Scott Roelofs

Personal Profile

I am originally from the town of Wheaton, Illinois, where I attended Wheaton Christian Grammar School. As a boy my family took vacations all over the country which  helped me to start developing a love for history.  I then moved on to Wheaton Christian High School  and enjoyed participating in football, basketball, and tennis.

Professional Profile

After high school I attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and received a degree in history . After graduating in 1979 I took a job offer at Timothy Christian High School teaching Christianity in Western Civilization, Government, and Economics. I then spent several summers working on a Master’s  degree at Northern Illinois University and  the National College of Education. I also took four trips to Europe and found a lot of material to enliven my classes. At Timothy I spent many years coaching wrestling and boy’s tennis. I also started the Mock Trial program and continue to coach that today. I am married to Sandy and we have three sons-Daniel (class of 2007), William (class of 2010), and Patrick (class of 2016). We attend Faith Christian Reformed Church in Elmhurst and are die-hard White Sox and Bears fans..

Philosophical Profile

The purpose of social studies classes is to teach students to live as Christians, with others, in God’s world.  Scripture commands us to be servants and to be the “salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13).  History is not a series of random events, but is the unfolding of God’s plan.  I try to help my students realize they each have a role in God’s plan.

I believe that all classes I teach provide a great opportunity.  They provide an opportunity to develop Christian thinkers as we attempt to understand the world, and they provide an opportunity for a practical application of our Christian beliefs.
