Trojans and Blazers Run to a 1-1 Tie
10.4.08
For the team's final game of the week, Timothy came out slow against a relentless Addison Trail attack. The Blazers scored with 3 minutes remaining in the second half to put Addison Trail up at half-time.
After coming out flat again in the second half, the Trojans finally woke up as time wound down. Jeb Nash recorded the Trojans lone goal with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Timothy made a strong push to take over the lead, but in the end, there just wasn't enough time.
The team looks forward to a Sunday rest, and focuses on Senior night next Monday, October 6 at 6:15 vs. St. Edwards.
Trojans Finish PSL Schedule on Strong Note With 4-0 Performance vs. Chicago Christian
10.3.08
From the first whistle to the last, the Timothy team dominated the flow of play against PSL rival Chicago Christian. A dominating defensive effort by Timothy prevented the Knights of Chicago Christian from ever recording a shot on goal. The problem (at least at first) for the Trojans was finding the back of the net.
Senior midfielder Taylor Slager ended the scoring drought with 15 minutes left in the first half. Slager would again enter the scoring book a few minute later, this time with an assist- a near-post cross that found aerial technician Jon Voss' head, then the back of the net.
The attack carried on into the second half, with senior forward Justin Groenewold tucking a Jeb Nash pass into the goal. The scoring was finished with authority on the best shot of the year for the team. Junior Aaron Foster laid a perfectly timed back-pass to Jon Voss who rocketed the ball into the upper corner of the net. The goal was to be the exclamation point on this complete team effort.
Timothy Victorious 4-2 Over #1 Seeded Hinckley-Big Rock
10.1.08
After another cancelled game Monday, the Trojans found themselves in the odd (for this year) position of having two days of practice prior to a game. The team took advantage of this time, working on fitness, and learning how to play together without Sophomore standout Zach Dobey who was lost for the season with a broken leg.
In a game that featured "Ray Graham Night," the second half of a fundraiser/relationship builder between the Timothy Varsity team and the Ray Graham Association for adults with disabilities, the Trojans dominated the flow of play and beat a #1 seeded regional opponent, Hinckley-Big Rock. While the two schools are not in the same regional bracket, the dominating performance by the Trojans was definitely a step forward for this team.
Senior captain Jake Schemper scored the lone goal of the first half, and hit the post on another scoring threat. With the half-time score closer than the possession indicated, Timothy came out in the second half on fire, quickly amassing a 4-0 lead. Player of the game Taylor Slager finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists, Jake Schemper added 2 assists to his first half goal, and Justin Groenewold finished off a goal as well.
The Royals of Hinckley-Big Rock produced two late second-half goals to make the final score close, but in the end, it was too much Timothy. After the game, the varsity team enjoyed a pizza party with their friends from the Ray Graham Association, wearing the Ray Graham shirts (customized with name and number) that their friends had generously given them for pre-game warm-ups.
The Trojans look to finish off the week on a good note with games versus league opponent Chicago Christian and Addison Trail.
Trojans Beat IMSA Titans 5-0
9.27.08
The Trojans handily beat the Illinois Math and Science Academy Titans 5-0 on a Saturday game that featured the IMSA homecoming celebrations. Timothy came out slow, finally scoring two goals to finish off the first half.
The game was taken out of contention early in the second half with an offensive barrage- 3 goals scored in the first 8 minutes of the match. Senior captain Jake Schemper had two goals, as did senior captain Jeb Nash who also recorded an assist on a beautiful head-ball goal by senior defender Jon Voss.
Timothy now prepares for another busy week of soccer.
Timothy Lets Early Lead Slip Away As Rival Wheaton Academy
Defeats the Trojans 3-2
9.25.08
Before tonight's game, the Timothy Christian Varsity Program looked to record it's first ever win against perennial PSL powerhouse Wheaton Academy. This game is always circled on the Trojan's calendar at the beginning of the year, and the contest is always extremely hard fought. Tonight's game was no different.
Timothy came ready to play, striking first on a beautifully timed through-ball assist from Zach Dobey that found senior forward Justin Groenewold. Groenewold crushed the ball from 25 yards out and found the back of the net. The early scoring attack was soon echoed by a well placed Zach Dobey lob over the stellar Wheaton Academy goal-keeper.
But the Warriors from Wheaton Academy would not be denied. They scored once before half-time, and, through a second half that featured long-range throw-ins and set-pieces time after time, Wheaton was able to find the back of the net twice more to take the lead.
With 15 minutes remaining, Timothy mounted several attempted attacks, but it was not to be. Wheaton finished off the game 3-2.
The Trojans have the opportunity to finish off a challenging week on a positive note if they can defeat Illinois Math and Science Academy, whom they play on Saturday.

Trojans Hang On to Finish Off Homewood-Flossmoor, 3-2
9.22.08
The Trojans had a day of rest between games, in a busy week that features 4 soccer games. Homewood Flossmoor, a division 3A opponent has been a steady non-conference opponent for the past number of years, and matches typically feature a physical style of play. While today's game didn't feature the normal physicality, the game did leave the Trojans hanging on at the end.
Player of the game and team Captain Jeb Nash scored the opening goal off of a perfectly executed set piece, with an assist to his co-captain Jake Schemper. Nash crossed a beautiful line-drive to the near post that was slammed home by a perfectly timed Jon Voss run. Timothy would need the insurance goal, as the Vikings of Homewood Flossmoor rallied to score off of a set-piece rebound.
Jake Schemper finished off the scoring for the Trojans with a blast to the near post that ricocheted off of the keeper and into the net. The ambitious shot certainly merits attention for goal of the match, but then again all three goals were very well struck.
On another disappointing goal allowed off of an unmarked cross, the Vikings rallied back again, but in the end the Timothy defense hung tough. Although the game was not played the team's full potential, sometimes in a busy 4 game week, a win is a win.
No rest for the weary- tomorrow's game is vs. PSL opponent Westminster Christian.
Timothy Finishes Off Pepsi Showdown Schedule With Impressive 5-2 Win Over Francis Parker
9.20.08
The lads from Timothy Christian finished off the Pepsi Showdown with a good result. The early morning start of 8:30am did not seem to faze the Trojans as they jumped out to early 2-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game. The scoring did not stop there, the Trojans finished the half scoring three more times and allowing one. With a comfortable 5-1 lead at halftime, the Trojans intensity was not quite as high as the coaches would have liked, but the Trojans finished up with a 5-2 win.
Goals scored on the day were by Taylor Slager (2 goals) Jeb Nash (2 goals, 1 assist) and Jake Schemper (1 goal, 2 assists). Next game is scheduled for Monday night vs. Homewood-Flossmoor at home. The game is "A team recognition night," where our middle school A team will be recognized at half-time.
Trojans Beat Lakeview 4-2 in Tale of Two Halves
9.18.08
It was the worst of times. It was the best of times.
Just as the coaching staff was afraid of, there was an emotional let-down in the third Pepsi Showdown game after the big 4-0 win over rival Illiana two days earlier. The Trojans unfortunately came out flat in the first half, and Lakeview took advantage with a goal near the 20 minute mark. After several missed opportunities on the offensive end that should have generated goals, Timothy made the inexcusable mistake of not marking three Lakeview attackers, one of whom placed a cross into the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the half to put Lakeview up 2-0.
Halftime was a gut check for the Trojan squad, as each player was individually challenged to live up to his potential, and play within his responsibilities.
Timothy came roaring back in the second half with an energetic full team barrage that scored 4 unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes. Senior captain Jeb Nash started the scoring on a bang-bang play with the Lakeview goalie. The ball was bobbled, and then slammed home by the midfielder. Senior forward Justin Groenewold, the Trojans player of the game added the second and fourth goals, and tallied an assist. Groenewold's aggression and overall performance helped fuel the dominating second half turnaround. Senior captain Jake Schemper bent it like Beckham on a free kick set piece around the Lakeview wall past the outstretched goalkeeper and into the corner of the net for the Trojan's third goal. Schemper also recorded two second half assists.
Timothy looks to finish off the Pepsi Showdown on a winning note on Saturday versus a yet-to-be determined opponent.
Timothy Regains Winning Ways vs. League Rival Illiana With 4-0 Victory
9.16.08
The Timothy men's varsity team finally played a game up to their potential, as they handily beat perennial league rival Illiana, 4-0. It was senior goalie Peter Tameling's 3rd shutout of the year, in a game that featured his 14 saves- 2 of the spectacular variety.
The Trojans were happy to welcome varsity new-comer, sophomore Zach Dobey to the starting lineup with 2 goals and an assist- an outstanding individual effort that included a headball goal off of a Justin Groenewold cross. Senior captain Jake Schemper recorded 2 assists and controlled the Trojan offense. Schemper scored on a penalty kick, as did his co-captain, senior Jeb Nash.
The pace of the game- regularly the one of the most physical battles of the Timothy soccer calendar- was set early on by Timothy, and the Trojans never looked back. This complete team effort in indicative of what this team is capable of. The coaching staff hopes that this game is another step toward reaching the team's ultimate goal.

Trojans Lose To Mt. Carmel In Pepsi Showdown Opener
9.09.08
by athlete contributor senior defender Josh Hjelmgren
Mount Carmel showed a lot of class and determination in the first round of the tournament against us. Both teams came into the tournament with high expectations and a lot of energy. In the first half Mount Carmel scored two unanswered goals. After the second half Dave Kuenzi scored on a cross from Jake Schemper to change the score to 2-1.
Mount Carmel didn’t give in though and scored on a penalty kick to put the score at 3-1. With ten minutes left Jeb Nash scored to make the score 3-2. After that Timothy and Mount Carmel had many chances but none of them were finished. This game was played with a lot of energy and aggressiveness, something you’d expect in the Pepsi Showdown.
After Week of Cancellations, Trojans Relieved to Find Revenge vs. Red Raiders
9.6.08
In a week that initially featured three games (two were cancelled due to severe
weather) the Timothy Christian men's varsity soccer team was happy to finally get back on the field for their second soccer game.
A long road trip to play Earlville High School- the team that knocked the Trojans out of the sectional semi-finals last year 1-0 on a penalty kick. The returning players saw to it that they would not lose to this team a second time.
After a blistering pace and playoff type intensity for the first 10 minutes of play, senior Jeremy Hoving subbed into the game, and 30 seconds later he had his second goal in as many games. A long throw-in from Corey Phillip found Hoving alone on the back post, and the ball was placed perfectly over the keeper and into the net.
A second goal in the first-half came from a set-piece near the corner-kick area. Senior captain Jeb Nash took a cross, which was slammed home with authority off the head of senior defender Jonathan Voss. The entire game featured great intensity and an outstanding defensive effort and goalkeeping earned goalkeeper Peter Tameling his second shutout in as many games, winning the game 2-0.
Both cancelled games this week (versus Chicago Christian and Westminster Christian) will be rescheduled.
Timothy Soccer Starts Slow But Finishes Strong With 8-0 Win Over Aurora Central Catholic
8.28.08
The Timothy Christian Men’s Varsity soccer team started their season off on the right foot with an 8-0 victory over the Chargers of Aurora Central Catholic. The season opener at home featured a hat trick by senior forward and captain, Jeb Nash. Goals by senior captain Jake Schemper (one assist), senior defender Josh Hjelmgren, junior mid fielder/forward Jon Workman (one assist), forward Aaron Foster, and midfielder Jeremy Hoving finished out the scoring for the Trojans. Taylor Slager and Jon Voss also recorded assists.
The Charger’s goalie Brian O’Donnell was definitely the man of the match for the Chargers, recording 31 saves. The Timothy attack took a while to get started, but by the second half, the team had found a groove, and there was no turning back. The Jeremy Hoving goal finished off the scoring for the Trojans, and may already warrant consideration for goal of the year- Hoving shot a powerful blast from 25 yards out that ripped the upper corner of the net.
Overall, the game was a good first start for a team with high aspirations- but there is certainly room for improvement.
