Congratulations to Mia Battista (6th grade), Ryan David (6th grade),  Noelle Ellingsen (5th grade), Sophia Markle (5th grade), Promise Obazuaye (5th grade) and Andrea Torres (6th grade) who were named to the first All-State Elementary Honors Choir!

This year, ILMEA decided it was time to honor our youngest singers by creating an Elementary All-State Honors Choir for Boys and Girls.   While Ryan was unable to participate due to conflicts, he was selected to be in the 175 member All-State Boys Choir. Mia, Noelle, Sophia, Promise and Andrea were selected to be in the 175 member All-State Girls Choir. Preparation of the music began in December with Ms. DeJager and continued through January as the IMEC conference approached. On January 30th, the festival day began with an early morning ride to Peoria, arriving in time for a 9 am rehearsal in the ballroom of the Marriott Hotel Pere Marquette.  The girls choir worked with Melissa Miller from Millikin University.  The day culminated in a standing room only concert at Peoria Civic Center.  Combining the All-State Elementary choir students with the ILMEA District 1 Junior Honors Choir students, TCS’ 5th-8th grade Choirs had 11 students selected to ILMEA Honor Choirs this year, the largest number since TCS participation began in 2011. The hard work of our choir students is allowing them to take advantage of great opportunities.

In October, High school students audition for coveted All-State Band, Choir and Orchestra spots. In the same month, middle school students audition for positions in the IMEA district, or regional band, choir and orchestra, the highest level for middle school students to attain. The ILMEA season culminates in January at the IMEC  conference; a3 day conference in Peoria drawing approximately 4,000 music educators from all over Illinois.  These teachers and professors teach elementary through college level music in the areas of band, choir, jazz, and orchestra along with other facets of music and attend IMEC for professional development. IMEC is the conference sponsored by the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA), which is the Illinois chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

Upcoming 5th-8th grade Choral events in March include Jr. Chamber and 5th grade Choir participating in the Northwestern Solo and Ensemble contest in Evanston.  A new event for 6th-8th grade Choir students is TCS Fine Arts sponsored Choral Festival Day for 6th-12th grade Choir students.  This event is held on campus during their class time is sure to be beneficial for our choral musicians.

How great that our youngest choir students are singing with skill and excellence; using their God given talents for His glory.
