Girls' Varsity Tennis Brings Home a 1st Place and Medals

The Girls Varsity Tennis Team had a busy and rewarding weekend which started at Willowbrook's Friday Night Lights Quad where Timothy took first place at this event by one point.  The next morning found the team at the Elk Grove HS Invite with strong performances by many of our players.  Sophomore Annika Zeilstra was the 2nd place singles champ.  Other medalist at the tourney include Morgan DeVries (3rd place - 1st singles), Kelsey Tammeling & Sarah Becker (3rd place - 1st Doubles) and Sarah Dirkse & Tessa Brandsma (3rd Place - 2nd Doubles).  Congratulations!

 

Varsity Game Updates

Week #3 - Only dual meet of the week was against Elmwood Park. An improved Elmwood line-up was still no match for the Trojans as TC won by a final score of 6-1. Abigail Kumar continued her trend of long matches prevailing 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a 3 hour battle. Doubles teams swept all four divisions with easy victorties.

Ending the week the Varsity squad visited Willowbrook HS on Saturday for the eight team District 88 Invite. Despite playing with three sophmores in the six person line-up the team claimed a 2nd place trophy just two points behind Nazareth Academy. Annika Zeilstra cruised to the 2nd singles title with 3 impressive wins. 2nd place finishers were Morgan DeVries at 1st singles and Kelsey Tammeling and Sara Becker at 1st doubles. The 2nd place finish equals Timothy's best finish ever at this event.

Week #2 - The Varsity team continued their winning ways with three more victories.  Walther Lutheran visited Timothy on August 29th and were defeated by a 4-1 score. Kelsey Tammeling and Sara Becker began their season with a convincing win at 1st doubles by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

The Trojans traveled to Addison Trail and came home with a convincing 6-1 win. Morgan DeVries won 6-1,6-0 at #1 singles and Annika Zeilstra matched her score with a win at #2 singles. Daniella Girotti and Jenna Cler teamed together for the first time at 4th doubles and won 6-3.6-3.

Conference play began on Sept. 1st with a match vs always tough Riverside-Brookfield. Varsity played their top line-up for the first time and played their best tennis of the young season topping RB by a 5-2 score. Morgan DeVries, Annika Zeilstra and Abigail Kumar swept singles play with three hard fought matches. Doubles winners were Becker/Tammeling winning a three setter at #1 doubles and Gorman/Jabaay straight set winners at 3rd doubles.

Week #1 - Girls Tennis got off to a strong start with both Varsity and JV teams defeating Lisle HS by scores of 5-0 and 4-0.

Varsity winners were Annika Zeilstra at 1st Singles, Abigail Kumar winning a 2 1/2 hr match at 2nd singles, Jenna Cler and Tessa Brandsma at 1st doubles, Ashley Kottke and Sarah Dirkse at 2nd doubles and Brittany Gorman and Monica Jabaay at 3rd Doubles.
