Mrs. Sonja Corrigan
Personal Profile
I was privileged to grow up in this community and graduate from Timothy Christian in 1993. I believe that my Christian education both here at Timothy and in college has contributed significantly to who I am today. Now as a teacher at Timothy, I desire to provide a similar Christian education experience to other covenant children.
I value my time spent with family and friends and enjoy watching sports, working in my yard, and reading a good book at the beach. I currently live in Lombard with my husband Steve and am a member of Elmhurst CRC.
Professional Profile
After graduating from Calvin College in 1997, my first teaching job was at Ontario Christian in Ontario, CA teaching first grade. While I enjoyed the California weather, my family was here in the Chicago area so after 3 years I returned to this area and started teaching kindergarten at Timothy in the fall of 2000. My first few years back in the area I worked on my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood at Concordia University and completed my degree in the summer of 2003. After teaching kindergarten for 8 years, I moved into the Preschool Director position here at Timothy. Now I teach all four of the preschool sessions with Nancy Van Hout and Sherri Townsend.
Philosophical Profile
Young children are eager and enthusiastic learners. My role as their teacher is to motivate, encourage, and guide their learning and provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for them. God has not created any two children alike; therefore, each child has different learning needs and I work to include diverse teaching methods to meet these needs.
My classroom is a Christian community for my students. It is a place where God’s love is evident and where love and acceptance of others is developed. Each child knows he is loved and accepted by God and is an important part of our classroom community.
