Mrs. Kayla Wories

Personal Profile
I was born and raised in northwest Iowa, married my husband Joel and moved to Illinois in June 2005. And now I am thrilled to be teaching at Timothy Christian School! While student teaching at Timothy in the spring of 2005, I discovered it was a community I desired to become a more permanent part of. The following fall, God opened a door for me to join the Timothy staff as a full-time teacher. After five enjoyable years of teaching second grade at Timothy, I spent one year away, in order to spend more time at home with my precious daughter Ainsley, who was born at the end of the summer of 2010. During that time, I also worked closer to home, with the unique experience of being a part-time second grade teacher at Crown Point Christian School in Saint John, Indiana. The Lord soon directed my path back to Timothy, where I now have the adventure of teaching kindergarteners. The blessings I experience as I witness the growth of my students and enjoy the relationships I am able to build with them, as well as with their families and my co-workers, are numerous. In addition to teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and I have a passion for mission projects and service-learning trips. I particularly love outdoor activities, as well as playing sports and piano, signing, writing, and drawing. At the top of my list of new favorite hobbies are reading board books, crawling, playing hide-and-seek, and laughing, laughing, laughing with my little girl; when he is not busy studying for his seminary courses, my husband often joins in the fun! I am blessed to belong to Crete Reformed Church, where I am encouraged to use my spiritual gifts to further God’s kingdom. In particular, I am currently involved in Life Groups (small group Bible studies) and also enjoy volunteering in various ways when opportunities arise. Week after week, I am amazed at how the Spirit works in and through me.
Professional Profile
In May 2005 I graduated from Trinity Christian College, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with middle school concentrations in language arts and social sciences, as well as a minor in theology. My belief that learning is a life-long process propelled me to pursue further formal education, and in May 2008 I graduated from Concordia University with a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. It is genuinely exciting for me to apply what I learned in my studies to my classroom instruction. Along with teaching at Timothy, I occasionally enjoy playing piano as the students and I praise our Lord together. During the summers and for eight weeks each winter, I also have the privilege of co-leading a sign language camp/club for students entering grades three through six; it was a joy to teach the children how to communicate with one another using fingerspelling and basic vocabulary, as well as how to use their hands and facial expressions to worship God through signing songs.
Philosophical Profile
It is my privilege to teach in a Christian community, walking in prayerful step with my students and their parents to provide the best education possible for the covenant children entrusted to me. With eagerness I approach the tasks set before me, recognizing that each lesson—formal or informal—provides me with an opportunity to help my students more clearly understand God’s incredible world and their uniquely important roles in it. As I teach, I strive to instill enthusiasm for learning about our Father’s world while imparting knowledge and life skills to my students in a structured yet intriguing way. I often incorporate fine arts, kinesthetic activities, supplementary literacy projects, or other “extras” into lessons in order to motivate the diverse learners in my class.
