Cross Country - Final Season Report

Tessa Bosman and the boys cross country team ran very well in the class A state meet in Peoria this past Saturday.  Tessa ran a career best 19:29 for the 3 mile course and finished in 86th place.  The boys also ran a number of career bests and finished 22nd in the team standings.  Ryan DeGroot led the Trojans by covering the 3 mile course in 16:10 (66th place).  Ryan was followed closely by fellow senior Alex Sweatman in 16:35 (103rd) and juniors Philip Stanton in 17:30 (165th), Clarke Doig in 17:31 (167th), Jimmy Larkin in 17:46 (173rd), Christian Rasmussen in 17:59 (185th), and Andrew Groenewold in 18:08 (191st).  Congratulations runners!

10/17/11 - Cross Country Update

The Cross Country team has had a very good middle of the season.  For the last Tuesday meet of the season (9/13/11), the team ran the pre-conference meet at Elmwood Park for the MSC conference.  Tessa Bosman ran an impressive 19:52 for the 3 miles, taking 2nd place!  Anna Burch (21:34), Elena Denny (22:20), and Christie Mittlestaedt (23:59) also competed for the girls varsity.  The boys were led by Ryan DeGroot with a time of 16:11 taking 5th place.  Alex Sweatman (16:53), Philip Stanton (17:32), Andrew Groenewold (17:54), and Clarke Doig (17:59) also had the leading times for the boys team.  Overall, it was a great meet for both teams, with wonderful weather and many P.R.s for the runners.

The teams put out great effort on the extremely challenging, hilly, and questionably long course at the Kaneland invite, Saturday September 17.  Bosman once again led the girls team with a 21:03, Abby Dykema (21:53), Burch (22:30), Denny, Alexis Hoogendoorn, and Mittlestaedt ran for the girls varsity.  DeGroot took 27th with a 17:15, Sweatman (17:36), Stanton (18:40), Doig (18:54), and Groenewold (18:55) ran impressive times for the boys varsity.  It was a very tough course with two hills, but the runners did a great job completing it with style.

On Saturday, September 24, both teams ran in ideal weather conditions at the team favorite (2.94 mile) ACC course in Aurora.  Bosman and Dykema both broke 20 minutes with times of 19:06 and 19:53 respectively.  Burch also ran an impressive 20:30.  The boys had some fast times with DeGroot breaking 16 minutes with a time of 15:49.  Stanton, Groenewold, and Doig almost broke 17 minutes with times of 17:02, 17:03, and 17:04.  The team loves this course because it is flat, fast, and short.  And the trees are pretty:)

The teams raced for Anna Burch's 17th birthday on October 1 at the (3.1 mile) Lisle invite.  Bosman was 24th with a 20:57.  Burch (22:40), Denny (23:37), and Mittlestaedt (24:29) ran for the varsity.  DeGroot took 12th place!  With a 17:26.  Sweatman took an impressive 36th place with a time of 18:12.  Perhaps he had a certain war on his mind during the race? (War of 1812).  The wolfpack (Stanton, Groenewold, and Doig) pulled it in with times of 18:48, 18:52, and 18:59 respectively.  The boys team took 7th place overall.  Hopefully we will see this course again at the sectional meet this year!

9/17/11 - Cross Country Update

The Timothy Christian High School cross country teams have come out with a great start to 2011 season.  The first meet was Tuesday, August 30, held at Westmont.  It was a low-key meet, this year’s competing teams included Westmont, TC and Somanouck.  The six girls ran the 3 mile course first.  Senior Tessa Bosman was TC’s first finisher, taking 7th place in the meet with a time of 21:24, next was Sophomore Abby Dykema (11th, 22:43), Junior Anna Burch (13th, 13:07), Sophomore Alexis Hoogendoorn (17th, 24:25), Sophomore Christie Mittlestaedt (18th, 24:30), and Senior Elena Denny (20th, 24:40).  Tessa Bosman is the only returning runner from last year’s team, so we are very happy to have an (almost) full girls team this season!  The boys were very impressive, taking first place in the meet.  Senior Ryan DeGroot led the team and was the winner of the meet with a time of 17:30.  Fellow senior Alex Sweatman took second place with a 17:58, followed by the Wolf Pack Juniors Philip Stanton, Andrew Groenewold, and Clarke Doig finishing 4th (18:57), 5th (18:58), and 6th (19:12) respectively, Senior Aaron Snoeyink (6th. 19:12), Junior Jimmy Larkin (10th, 19:42), Junior Christian Rasmussen (12th, 19:53), Junior Jim Mittlestaedt (13th, 20:56), and Sophomore Nate Miller (16th, 21:46).

TC showed up to the Fenton Invite on a hot and humid Saturday, September 3.  This was a very large meet with many big schools, making for tough competition.  Tessa ran a great race in the hot weather, taking 39th with a 21:01.  We share Abby and Alexis with the JV Volleyball team, so they were unable to run at this meet.  The other 3 girls fought hard in tough conditions.  Ryan and Alex were very impressive taking 35th (17:02) and 54th (17:34).  The rest of the boys raced well to put the Varsity Boys team at 12th place out of 17 full teams.

Friday September 9th, the team left school at 11am and headed up to Grand Rapids for the Christian Schools Invite.  We toured the course, enjoyed a night of fun and fellowship, and stayed the night in the Prince Center on Calvin College’s Campus.  The Varsity Girls ran at 10am Saturday morning at Grand Rapid South Christian’s 5k (3.1 mi) course.  It was cooler than Fenton’s invite, which was nice for the runners.  The girls team took 6th place out of 8 full teams.  Tessa ran a sub 7 minute pace with a 21:24, taking an impressive 13th.  Abby finished 19th with a 21:51, Anna (36th 23:31), Elena (42nd, 24:36), Alexis (43rd, 24:40), and Christie (46th, 24:57).  The Varsity Boys also took 6th place with Ryan leading the team with a 17:37 at 20th place.  Alex was close behind him at 24th place with an 18:01.  Phil, Andrew, and Clarke pushed each other finishing (35th, 13:13), (36th, 19:18), and (39th, 19:25) respectively.  Aaron and Jimmy finished 45th and 48th at 19:52 and 20:06.  It was overall a great meet for our teams and very fun to get away for the weekend to compete and enjoy each other’s company.
