March 14th was a great day for chess at York High School as the parent, student and community volunteers welcomed over 275 students from 2nd - 12th grade to the 21st Annual Elmhurst Student Chess Tournament. The participants represented 14 different public and private schools in Elmhurst. For over two decades, community volunteers have worked with school chess leaders to offer an opportunity for students to learn and play chess at their school in a fun environment that gives our students a chance to “taste friendly chess competition.” Timothy students did quite well with a record setting 32 2-5th graders in attendance.
First place winners received a trophy; second, third and fourth place winners received ribbons. The standings for our top winners in the 2017 competition are as follows:
