March always holds wonderful Fine Arts experiences for our Timothy students. This month is off to a strong start!
Last Friday on March 10, our MS and HS students had a great time learning about Hip Hop dance at our Hip Hop workshops held during 4th-7th period PE classes. It was also open to any study hall students. Giselle Mendoza from Alight Movement shared her expertise on Hip Hop dancing and talent with us, as students got into the groove.
On Saturday, the HS Choral department hosted the Men of A Chord concert. Beautiful singing inspired audience members and students alike. Additionally, last week David Wallace Haskins judged the amazing high school artwork which is displayed in the high school.
On Monday and Tuesday, during class time, James Yarbrough will judge and clinic all 5th-12th grade choirs as part of our choral festival day. Students spent 3rd quarter preparing music for this event. The outcome will be a clear picture of how our choirs are doing and provide us with information to make goals to continue growing as musical technicians and young artists through the end of the year.
On Monday evening, March 13, you are invited to come to the first TCS Fine Arts High School Art Show, at 7 pm. Mr. Haskins will also present sessions on his art work. He will return to TCHS the week of March 20th to work directly with students, discussing their work and his critique of it. The Art show is open to all, so come and look at the beautiful creations of our art students and stay for an interesting presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
Tuesday night, March 14, from 6-9pm, is our HS/MS Solo and Ensemble Night Tuesday. Highly qualified judges from around the Chicagoland area will critique our middle school and high school students in the following areas: Piano (MS/HS students), Voice (MS/HS students), Strings (HS students), Winds (HS students) and Percussion (HS students). During their performance time, not only evaluate performers, but also work with students to improve their technique and artistry.
This Friday, 12 high school writers will participate in our Writers’ Workshop led by Tom Montgomery Fate during 4th and 5th periods. They will delve into their writing of poetry and prose for critique and further development.
Upcoming fine arts assemblies the week of March 20 include: Drs. Redekopp and Edwards, Wheaton College Conservatory, Piano Duo; ArtBeat Live Performance Artists; and an R&B group, THE REMEDY. Concluding our FINE ARTS FESTIVAL is THE BEST OF TIMOTHY ASSEMBLY where our 1st and 2nd place high school students perform. All assemblies take place at 2:30 pm, M-Th in the high school auditorium and are open to parents, as well as students. Contact Ms. DeJager with any questions at email@example.com
