The Timothy Christian Mock Trial team capped off another successful season finishing second in the State competition and ending with an undefeated 15-0 season. The team traveled to the University of Illinois Law School in Champaign-Urbana for the tournament.
This year's case concerned a college hazing incident in which pledges had to drink water for incorrect answers. One student drank so much water she passed out and died. The pledge master was charged with involuntary manslaughter and hazing.
In the first two rounds of play, Timothy competed against Maine South and Normal West. In the final round, TC played Glenbard East. Timothy won all their trials handily. At the close of the competition the top three finishers announced were: 3) Hinsdale Central 2) Timothy Christian 1) St. Charles North. The Trojans only regret was that, although they were in five tournaments together, Timothy was never matched up with St. Charles North.
Individual awards went to Charles Hooker as Outstanding Witness, and Elijah Tornow and Grace Files as Outstanding Attorneys. Nick Terpstra and Liz Canfield were witnesses, and Trevor Hoogendoorn and Josh Kalapala were attorneys. All but Liz will be graduating this spring. The team is coached by teacher Scott Roelofs and attorneys Cathy McNeil Stein and Bud Reinsma.
Congratulations on another outstanding season!
