The Mock Trial Team competed in a 20 team tournament, the McLean County Tournament, on Monday, February 13 in Bloomington. Almost all the good teams of the state were there.
Our A team competed against St. Charles East in the first round and Whitney Young from Chicago in the second. This year's case involves a college hazing incident where a girl is forced to drink a huge amount of water in an initiation game and ends up dying. The pledgemaster is charged with involuntary manslaughter and hazing. We made it to the championship round and were matched against Niles West. At the end of the competition TC was declared the winner (scoring considerably higher than the next four teams-Niles West, Maine South, St. Charles North, and Chicago Christian).
There were 5 Outstanding Witness awards given, and Timothy won two of them - Nick Terpstra and Will DeMey. Timothy's A team was comprised of seniors Trevor Hoogendoorn, Grace Files, Elijah Tornow, Josh Kalapala, Charles Hooker, Nick Terpstra, and junior Liz Canfield. The B team that competed was made of juniors Catherine Carter, Becky Hanna, Austin Hoogendoorn, Ruth Hruska-Kelley, William Terpstra and Yanni Gu. They were joined by sophomores Adrian Van Stee, Will DeMey, Seth Buikema and freshmen Calvin Groenewold, Calvin Veldman, and Grant McKenzie.
