This past weekend, for the first time ever, TCS Middle School Choir students performed at a National American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) convention. The National ACDA Conference has been described as the Super Bowl for Choral Music Educators where Choir directors of all age groups from around the world gathered together to learn, share and further the Choral art.
This past fall, it was announced that 7th grade students Kenna and Michal Tolman auditioned for and were accepted into the American Choral Directors Association National Middle School Honor Choir. 4400 students auditioned for about 250 spots. They worked with Ms. DeJager and their private voice teacher outside of school to prepare extremely difficult music over the past few months, knowing there would be a second round of auditions to pass upon arriving at Minnesota.
Spending up to 8 hours a day under the direction of Dr. Lynnel Jenkins, artistic director of the Princeton University Girl Choir, Kenna and Michal ended 4 days of learning with two performances at the Minnesota Civic Center and Symphony Hall. Thousands of choral directors, including composers of some of their music, were in each audience. Click here to hear the choir singing Jubilate Deo by Peter Anglea.
Timothy Choir students, grades 5-12, will have future opportunities to audition for the State, Regional and National Honor Choirs starting this fall for the upcoming state and regional conferences in 2017 and 2018, as well as the next National ACDA conference in 2019.
Congratulations to our singers for representing TCS with excellence!
