Thank you for all the wonderful nominations for Distinguished Alumni of the Year. We’re stronger because of our alumni. Our alumni are courageous leaders in their communities. They are life-long learners and servant leaders. It is our privilege to recognize two alumni at Homecoming — one over 30 and one under 30.
Arnie Hoving, Superintendent from 1977-1993, went HOME to be with the Lord on April 7. Arnie also served in many other roles at Timothy during his legendary career, and has been a mentor and hero to so many others. Please keep the Hoving family in your prayers. We mourn with them, and yet we also rejoice because of our shared hope in Jesus.

On Friday against Ridgewood, Timothy Christian High School girls volleyball coach Scott Piersma reached a career milestone 200th victory, in just his 8th season as varsity coach.
VICTORY! It's been 19 years (yes, YEARS) since Timothy beat Wheaton Academy in boys soccer.

Our middle school students wanted to make a difference close to home. Last week, the middle school students collected nearly 400 personal healthcare items to donate—a total of 500 pounds!
I serve on several boards, mostly in the nonprofit world and mostly in Chicagoland. Over the years I wish I had been keeping track of how many times a Timothy family pops up on the radar of one of these organizations. It’s extraordinary!
Although participating in the Fine Arts Vocal Division was optional this year, students worked hard and presented some impressive performances!
It’s case closed — Timothy’s all-star Mock Trial team has won third place in the state! Carter Bulthuis (‘21) was awarded the honor of All-State Witness and Kate Buikema (‘21) earned the title of All-State Attorney.

The varsity boys basketball team ended an abbreviated 2021 season with a 14-2 overall record and an 11-1 record in the Metro Suburban Conference.
The Timothy Christian Lady Trojans made the best of their COVID shortened season by posting a 14-2 overall record, 11-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference.

Our Scholastic Bowl team captured the Seneca Sectional Championship for the second time in five years! They defeated Lisle, Francis Parker, and top seed Westmont! Way to go!
Congratulations to the ACES (Academic Challenge in Engineering and Science) team for their Sectional Championship. The Academic Challenge is a competitive series of tests created by a team of academic experts and previously administered by the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) program.

Cross-cultural and cross-curricular learning was on display Thursday, February 25 as Timothy's Bridge Builders and Spanish Honor Society partnered to research and present to the community on the African diaspora in Spanish-speaking countries.

Under the leadership of middle school science teachers Mr. DeVin and Mr. Kowitz, our 7th and 8th-grade students participated in Fenwick's annual Jr. High science competition in November.
The Fr/So Scholastic Bowl team finished in 15th place out of 36 teams at the Rockford Scholastic Bowl tournament this past weekend. Special congratulations to Jeremiah Anema who finished 4th out of 181 individual students at the tournament.

This year our local VFW post hosted the Patriot’s Pen competition. This is a VFW sponsored youth essay competition that gives students an opportunity to write an essay expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme.

Congratulations to freshman Aiden Hoogstra for winning the VFW Voice of Democracy District 19 competition. As the District winner, Aiden's essay has been submitted to the Department of Illinois VFW to compete with other District winners throughout the state.

Timothy Christian High School junior Jonathan Pae was chosen for the 2021 All State IMEC (Illinois Music Educators Conference) in Peoria! Jonathan, who plays the cello, is the only musician chosen from Timothy this year to represent us at All State.

Senior Kate Buikema dropped her new single,“I Hope You’re Fine," onto over thirty different music platforms this past weekend. This is her second original song that she’s released—the first, “Like They Used To” came out in 2019.

On October 14, thirty-five high school students were inducted into the National Honors Society. The students were selected by the faculty for successfully completing their candidacy.

On Saturday, the girls tennis team won the Conference Championship. The Lady Trojans won an impressive 28 of 30 matches including dual matches and tourney.
The Spanish teachers have been working hard to celebrate Hispanic culture this month. One of the projects to raise awareness has been viewing music videos of different Hispanic artists.

The Timothy Christian girl's tennis program is on a historic run in 2020. Twenty-six players joined tennis this year, which is almost a record number.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of George Tamminga, former principal of Timothy Christian Elementary School, and dear friend to many. Mr. Tamminga went home to to be with his Lord and Savior on September 26.
If you were to walk around the high school this month, you may notice that there’s a lot more Spanish in our hallways than there usually is. That’s for a good reason: it’s Hispanic Heritage Month! In honor of this time of year, Mrs. Baio, Mrs. Karalis, and Mrs. Lanenga — the teachers in the high school Spanish Department — are busier than ever, educating every student — whether they’re in Spanish I or AP— about Hispanic culture.
The Timothy athletic program is heavily funded by private donations, 75% of which come in through the golf outing, making it the largest and most significant fundraiser for our program.
Joy Perley is thrilled to join the Timothy community as the new Advanced Learning teacher. Hailing from Orlando, she grew up going to Disney World on weekends and watching space shuttles launch from her bedroom window; these experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong love for creativity, innovation, and exploration.

Last week, the cross country team competed against 5 other schools in Manteno. Both the boys and girls teams finished 3rd place overall with notable finishes by Chloe Leppink (freshmen) 13th place and Alex Becker (soph) 13th, Ryan Horner (soph) 14th and Tyce Plaisier (freshmen) 15th place.
Hi! I'm Olivia (Helmus) de Vin and I'm working at Timothy as an intern on the Marketing team! I graduated from Timothy in 2017 and continued my education at Dordt University.
Our adversary, the devil, wishes things were different here at Timothy. He doesn’t give up easily, and apart from Christ we cannot achieve victory over him. So let’s stay focused, let’s continue to work hard, let’s stick together in unity, and let’s do all things for the glory of God.

Timothy Christian High School graduates had plenty of pomp to go with the unusual circumstance of their commencement Friday evening in Elmhurst.
The 84 seniors were originally invited to walk across the stage for their diplomas in a traditional ceremony with family and classmates watching, but the unpredictable pandemic took the ceremony away, just as it did the last weeks of their final year of school.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors announced its intended plans for the 2020-21 school year. For now, we are grateful that it appears each of our sports seasons will take place---albeit under a different setting
After continued prayer and consultation with experts, our plan remains to return to campus for in-person learning on August 19th.

Chandler Brady, a 6th grader, participated on a 6 month team competitive research project with DuPage County Jr. ACT-SO. The project was on the long-term effects of using plastic bags and impacts of chemical exposure to polyethylene on humans.

Now, with our current, unexpected situation due to COVID-19, many, if not all, of these plans have been put on hold.
At 1:45 pm this afternoon, High School Principal Brad Mitchell, Elementary and Middle School Principal Dr. Tim Hoeksema, Nurse Plaisier, joined me on a conference call with leaders from the Dupage County Regional Office of Education and from the Dupage County Health Department.
We are currently projecting a 6th consecutive year of growth. Because of that growth, it’s critical that all current families meet the re-enrollment deadline of March 26.

On Saturday morning, February 22, about 40 TC 5-8 graders participated in the Visitation Solo Festival at Visitation School in Elmhurst. Students performed a solo for a judge and received comments about their musicianship. Each student received a medal as well. Thank you students for challenging yourselves in your musical journey!”
February was a busy month for our instrumentalists! On Saturday, Feb. 15, Mr. Pelt brought a pep band consisting of Timothy middle and high school band students (and one parent performer) to play crowd favorites before a Chicago Wolves hockey game.

Our teachers faithfully serve our children. The teacher appreciation committee organizes dinners to thank them on the evenings of conferences. It is a huge blessing to them during a very busy week.
Grades K-4 will have conferences very similar to our fall conferences, focusing on student progress and growth. Grades 5-8 will have Student-led Conferences. Your son/daughter will share information with you about their progress this year, including their identified strengths and areas for improvement and further growth.

Over the past few weeks the boy’s varsity basketball team has had the opportunity to play in several fun games. During this time the boys have won 8 straight games and hold an overall record of 18-3 and 7-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference.
The varsity girls basketball team finished a successful season with a loss to DePaul College Prep in the Sectional Semi-finals, 53-51. It was a tough loss, but that does not take away from the overall accomplishments of this team.

Timothy Christian HS DECA participated in Regional Competition in Rosemont on Friday, January 24. There were about 1200 students competing from the Western Suburbs.

Phase III is a nearly $10MM project that will involve a significant and innovative renovation of our high school building during the next two summers. (Phase I involved the middle school and high school competition gym. Phase II was the renovation of the elementary school.)

They started the Lisle Christmas Tournament as the seventh seed. They finished as champions! The Timothy Christian Girls’ Varsity Basketball team won the annual Lisle Christmas Tournament.
Christmas break is a wonderful opportunity for kids to get away from school and spend time with friends and family celebrating the birth of our Savior. Many families leave town and travel for large family gatherings or vacations, but the Timothy boy’s basketball team stayed in town for an opportunity to compete at York High School’s Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament.

After a slow start, the Girls’ Varsity basketball team has won six games in a row. Several factors contributed to an early season 1-3 record. The first week of practice the team was missing six players.
The boy’s varsity basketball team started the season by competing in the Chuck Mitchell Thanksgiving Tournament at Fenton High School. This was the boy’s first year at Fenton after over 30 years of competing at the Lisle Thanksgiving Tournament.
The 2020-21 Illinois State Scholars represent approximately the top ten percent of high school seniors from 726 high schools across the state. Illinois State Scholars are chosen based on a combination of exemplary ACT or SAT test scores and sixth semester class rank. This year, 16 Timothy students were named Illinois State Scholars.

The Timothy Christian Chess Team competed in the Machaj Memorial Chess Tournament recently. Our 4th and 5th graders took home 2nd place and our K-3rd grade students took home 4th place.
On Monday afternoon, December 2, the 6th-8th grade students and staff gathered for the School Geography Bee in the Huizenga Auditorium. Grade and middle school students were eager to share their knowledge of our amazing world through the GeoBee competition.
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: A day that encourages people to do good — to harness the power of social media to celebrate and inspire giving. Coming in February 2020, Timothy will have its first ever #TimothyGivingDay to rally support for our Timothy Fund, which helps all students at our school.
Our annual Christmas Collage Concert is Thursday, December 5th at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. Our high school performing ensembles will be celebrating the 300th anniversary of “Joy to the World” with ethnic Christmas music from around the world (and a few familiar favorites mixed in, too).

On Saturday, November 23, about 750 students converged onto the campus of Elmhurst College for the 2019 District 1 Senior Music Festival. Students participated in day long rehearsals with highly esteemed guest conductors.
The 3rd-6th grade math triathlon team took first place at their recent competition at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights. There were 12 Christian schools competing!

Three hundred moms and daughters enjoyed a night with our nationally renowned speaker Vicki Courtney. She spoke to moms and daughters, raising the question, “Is it good for my soul?” and addressed the mental health crisis in our society and amongst our teenage girls.
On Saturday, November 9th, three Timothy orchestra students participated in the annual District 1 Junior Music Festival at Joliet Central High School in Joliet. The festival included over 500 students selected from more than 60 schools throughout the southwestern metropolitan Chicago area.

Every September, our high school staff and guest instructors begin to prepare the courses they wish to offer for Renew in January. We are excited to have five guest instructors this year.
On October 2, forty-one high school students were inducted into the National Honors Society. The students were selected by the faculty for successfully completing their candidacy.
Timothy Christian High School had earned a spot in the championship game. It was a storybook finish for a team that has meshed not only as competitors, but as brothers. The chemistry the boys have on and off the field has translated into a winning season and earned them an IHSA 1A first place ranking in the state.

On Saturday, over 200 students participated in the annual ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association) Middle School District 1 Auditions. These students all competed at Summit Hill Junior High in Frankfort, IL by playing scales and passages in hopes to be selected to perform at the MS Festival Day.

Apple peeling that is. A “sweet” annual fund-raiser is Timothy’s Apple Pie Day. Dutch Apple Pie Day is taking place on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8 and requires the help of about 100 people.

The golf team won the red division Conference Tournament with an accumulative score of 352! The Regional Tournament is on October 3 at Maple Meadows in Addison.

Last Friday night, 10 outstanding restaurants, over 300 hungry guests and 60+ parent and student volunteers came out for the first annual Timothy Music Department Restaurant Wars. After enjoying a variety of delicious foods, guests voted for their favorite restaurant.
Everybody Counts is back again this year with some exciting new opportunities for the students. For those unfamiliar with Everybody Counts, it’s a week-long program designed to inform students about various disorders and disabilities in hopes of inspiring acceptance and understanding of those who face different challenges.

Junior Cassandra Lee was 1st Singles Champ at the Willowbrook District 88 Invite. This was her third 1st place medal at this event in three years.
The Trojans went 3-0 on the week beating Chicago University High 3-0, Nazareth Academy 2-0 and previously unbeaten Woodstock 2-1 in the Opening Round of the PepsiCo Showdown Series. They will continue with the PepsiCo Showdown for Charity this week!

We give praise and thanks to God for giving us a beautiful sunny day for the Timothy Tri Event held at Foster Beach in Chicago on Saturday, August 24. Despite the powerful waves that deterred us from swimming, our participants still persevered and crossed the finish line!
Before starting your freshman year at Timothy, your closet must contain at least one of the following items: a tutu (especially if you’re a boy), a men’s tie (especially if you’re a girl), suspenders, leggings from the ’80s, a full-length feather boa, or at the very minimum —neon basketball shorts.

Each Friday morning that school is in session, a group of parents meet in the High School Conference room from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. to pray for their children and schools. Free child-care is graciously provided by Timothy High School students.

The Golf Scramble includes a 4-person scramble with two flights available (am or pm), lunch (grill options, which you can enjoy anytime from 10:30 am–12:15 pm), two beverage carts, exciting opportunities & contests throughout the day, drawings, and an awards reception with refreshments and dinner following golf.
On September 6, 13, 20 & 27, PiE is offering dance classes for 7th & 8th grade students every Friday night. All classes are from 7:00-8:30 pm in the grade school lunch room.
This will be an opportunity to become better acquainted with your child’s teacher and the curriculum that will be covered during the 2019-20 school year. Because of the design of the program and space limitations, we respectfully ask that the evening be reserved for parents only.
