On Monday, March 11, Choir students grades 6-12 kicked off Fine Arts season with a performance and master class with Dr. James Stegall, emeritus choral director from Western Illinois University. Dr. Stegall taught at WIU for 30 years, after receiving his Doctorate in Choral Conducting from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Chamber Choir, Concert Chorale, Mixed Choir, Middle School Choir and 6th grade choir each sang several selections they worked on this past quarter. He then spent the remaining time in class working on areas needing additional support. He was well received by the students and advanced their understanding on about vocal production, vowel placement, and diction. He spoke highly of the performances throughout the day, and is eager to come back and work with Mrs. Lanenga and Ms. DeJager’s students.

We are thankful for the opportunities to bring leading experts into our classrooms to improve our vocal technique and skill at Timothy.
