The Class of 2018 graduated on May 20 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. Dr. Greg Schuringa, father of graduate Olivia Schuringa, gave the opening prayer. Then William Terpstra, the Class of 2018 Salutatorian, welcomed everyone to graduation. “It takes a lot of love to go to band and orchestra concerts, mock trial tournaments, and to listen to every speech and presentation and go to every musical,” William Terpstra, told the crowd. “Thank you to all the moms and dads and grandparents.”
Yanni Gu gave the Valedictory speech. “You are God’s shining light and living water,” she told her fellow graduates. “You are the Lord’s witnesses.”
Alumni Director Jay Evenhouse presented Randy Veltkamp, a 1984 TC graduate, with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Randy is a successful businessman and athlete, but has always kept his focus on serving Christ. (You can read his story here). He encouraged each graduate to thank the teachers who had an impact on them.
Reverend Peter Semeyn, retired pastor and co-founder of Service Learning Development, gave the Commencement address. He encouraged the graduates to get out of the boat, just as Peter did, and follow Jesus.
Brad Mitchell, the high school principal, gave the class one last lesson. “Never forget that you are loved by God, the creator of the universe,” he told them. “I want you to remember that for the rest of your lives.”
Joel Tameling presented the 77 graduates with their diplomas. Pastor Jose F Marco, father of graduate Jose E. Marco, closed in prayer.
Congratulations to the Class of 2018! We wish God’s blessings upon you as you go forth to continue your journeys!
