ILMEA Honors Ensemble Students
On Saturday, 1020 middle school students arrived at Reed-Custer Middle School for the annual Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District 1 Honors ensemble auditions. Sixteen Timothy 6th-8th grade students, a record number this year, chose to dedicate extra time outside of class to prepare and audition for places in the honor band, honor choir and honor orchestra. ILMEA District 1 is a highly competitive district at both the high school and middle school level. Geographically, it extends from its northern most point in Bensenville (Touhy Ave) down to Braidwood and from the Indiana border west toward Mokena.
Weeks of preparation went into this music, starting even before August. Students needed to demonstrate their skill on technical components such as major and minor scales, triads and etudes. Additionally, they had to perform excerpts of the selected repertoire, which was all high school level music, for entrance into the 3 ensembles.
Congratulations to the following Timothy Christian 6th-8th grade students for their acceptance into the ILMEA District 1 Honor Ensembles. They will participate in the ILMEA District 1 Honor Festival on Saturday, November 4 at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox. The 3 pm concert is free to all.
