On Saturday, February 13, the Mock Trial team competed at the DuPage County tournament held at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton. Thirty-two teams competed, including many of the strongest in the state.
This year’s case concerns a semi-professional hockey game in which one player clubs a rival player over the head with their stick. In their first trial, Timothy went up against St. Charles East and followed that with a trial against Oak Park-River Forest. Timothy and perennial powerhouse Hinsdale Central were selected as the top two teams in the tournament and competed in a championship match. After a closely contested trial, Timothy was declared the champion! Also recognized was Elijah Tornow who won Outstanding Witness.
The members of the “A” team (pictured above) were Justin Banks, Eliljah Tornow, Trevor Hoogendoorn, Grace Files, Liz Canfield, Josh Kalapala, Caleb DeHaan, Charles Hooker, and Alex Zebutis. Timothy’s B team also had a very good day, competing against Whitney Young and Evanston. “B” teamers on Saturday were Nick Terpstra, Catherine Carter, Will Terpstra, Will DeMey, Becky Hanna, Austin Hoogendoorn, Adrian Van Stee, and Ruth Hruska-Kelley.
Timothy’s Mock Trial team is coached by teacher Scott Roelofs, and attorney coaches Cathy McNeil Stein and Nathaniel Reinsma.
