Bonnie VanProyen

Good afternoon,

This week Wednesday is an e-learning day for all students. Teachers will have limited availability to answer questions as we will be doing professional development throughout the day. There will be a schedule posted on google classroom with activities for students to do. There will also be pre-recorded videos from the teachers and two times during the day that we will be able to answer questions by email if needed.

For e-learners, Mrs. Scholtens will be out of town Thursday and Friday of this week, so the schedule will reflect that with no meetings with her those days. In addition, we have a fire drill on Thursday during our regularly scheduled Bible class so there will be no lesson that day.

Here is an update on our curriculum for the week!

  • Math - We are continuing our second math unit of the year. This week we will be focusing on geometry through classifying quadrilaterals, symmetry, and finding patterns.
  • Bible - We will be learning about God's faithfulness through Joseph.
  • Science - We are beginning our first science unit this week by studying environments. We will specifically be looking at living and nonliving factors, the difference between aquatic and terrestrial environments, and other environment-related vocabulary.
  • Social Studies - We will be taking a break from Social Studies while we do our science unit.
  • Reading - We will practice inferences this week by looking closely at characters in various stories.
  • Writing - We are beginning our next writing unit which is informational writing. Students will spend this week looking at examples of informational writing and setting up an outline for their own writing about the Industrial Revolution.
  • Spelling - We will have a spelling test this Friday, Oct. 16.
  • Vocabulary/Grammar - For grammar this week, we will be studying types of sentences (declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory). We will also be reviewing some old vocabulary words. (This means no new words this week and no vocabulary quiz.)
