VEX Robotics Coach (Middle & High School)

Position Type: Part-Time, Seasonal
Duration: September – March (with potential extension to April or May based on team qualification)
Time: After 3:15 pm

Start Date: September 2025

 


Position Overview:

Timothy Christian Schools is a Christ-centered educational community seeking a dedicated and faithful VEX Robotics Coach to lead our Middle and High School robotics teams. This role combines technical mentorship with spiritual discipleship, guiding students in both engineering excellence and Christlike character. The ideal candidate will be a committed Christian who integrates a biblical worldview into coaching and mentoring..

 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Season Planning & Supervision
    • Organize and lead introductory meetings before the season begins.
    • Supervise 2–3 high school practices per week (2 hours each) during the regular season, primarily from 3:15 - 5:15 pm, and 1-2 middle school practices 1 -2 times per week for 1 ½ - 2 hours each practice.
    • Increase to 5 practices per week in the week leading up to competitions.
    • Supervise and drive students to competitions.
  • Competitions
    • Attend 4–6 all-day Saturday competitions (6 AM – 6 PM).
    • Most events are within 40 minutes driving distance; 1–2 may require 1–4 hours of travel and overnight stays.
    • If qualified, attend the U.S. Open (3-day event in Council Bluffs, IA) and/or VEX Worlds (3-day event, next year in St. Louis, MO).
  • Coaching & Mentorship
    • Guide students through the engineering design process: design, build, test, redesign, and compete.
    • Provide instruction in VEX programming and robotics systems.
    • Ensure all robot design and construction is student-led.
  • Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship
  • Model and mentor Christlike behavior in all interactions with students.
  • Encourage students to grow in their faith through robotics by emphasizing integrity, perseverance, teamwork, and servant leadership.
  • Logistics & Administration
    • Manage the purchase of materials and equipment.
    • Schedule and register for competitions.
    • Maintain communication with parents, students, and school administration.

 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to Christian discipleship.
  • Agreement with the school’s statement of faith and mission.
  • Experience with VEX Robotics or similar robotics platforms preferred.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and programming (VEXcode, RobotC, or similar).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to transport students.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
