During spring break, 48 members of our high school band, orchestra, and choir traveled to Florida to perform and visit theme parks. These music trips are offered approximately every four years to high school music students. One goal of our music department is to allow students an opportunity to travel and perform in a variety of ways so that they can improve their instrument, collaborate with the entire department, enjoy fellowship with one another, and share their talents with the greater community. In order to perform, the group submitted audition materials last spring and were selected to give a concert at Universal Studios at their high-profile CityWalk Lagoon Stage.

The first Saturday of spring break, the group loaded a large coach bus and departed Elmhurst amid light snow and cold wind. After a 24-hour drive, they arrived in sunny Florida and enjoyed ideal weather the entire trip. Early Sunday morning, they checked into their hotel and then spent the day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

On Monday, the combined group of students from band, choir, and orchestra, known as the Timothy Christian Philharmonic, headed to Universal Studios Orlando for the performance. To prepare the music, our students worked many extra hours to learn their parts and they rehearsed during their lunch time and after school. All the hard work paid off for a wonderful concert, including medleys of patriotic melodies and selections by Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Beatles. Several Timothy families who also traveled to Florida were in the audience to cheer the students on!

The last full day in Florida was spent at the Magic Kingdom for a long day of riding classic rides and enjoying the sunny, 90-degree weather. The students and directors are very thankful for the parents and families who helped make this trip possible, all who prayed for them, and those who were able to attend the performance in person.
