Jon Huizinga
Greetings from the College and Career Center at Timothy Christian Schools. We are excited to work with you and your students this year as they prepare for life after high school. There are many paths a student can take following high school graduation, but we anticipate that the majority of our students will continue their education at the college level. In an effort to help you and your student plan and be as well informed as possible, Timothy is offering the following opportunities for you to learn more about the college admissions process. I want to personally invite and encourage you to attend as many of these events as you can, as I do believe they can be very helpful as you navigate through this year.

  • A Parent’s Guide to Paying for College:
    • Wednesday, September 7, @ 7:00pm in the Huizenga Auditorium.  This workshop will introduce parents to the various financial aid options and focus on some of the biggest college planning mistakes families should avoid.  It will also reveal unique techniques to reduce the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) with the new FAFSA rules that can save thousands on college costs. Register here: A Parent's Guide to Paying for College

  • FAFSA Financial Aid Seminar:
    • Wednesday, September 28, @ 7:00pm in the Huizenga Auditorium. Learn how to apply for federal financial aid as it opens October 1 for the 2023-2024 school year.

    • Thursday, October 13, from 6:30-8:30pm in the TCHS Hoving Gymnasium. More than 50 of the top Christian colleges will be in attendance to speak more about what their institutions have to offer your student.  Students and parents can register for the fair here: Chicago West College Fair

  • Local College Fairs:
  • Virtual College Panel (recorded Fall 2021):
    •  Admissions Representatives from Baylor University, College of DuPage, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Wheaton College joined counselor Jon Huizinga on a virtual college panel to discuss relevant college admissions topics. Click here to view: College Admissions Panel

  • The Scoir College Network:
We are excited to be working with Scoir, the leading college planning platform that will help students discover colleges that match their personal and academic interests.  We are excited to be able to provide Scoir to our students and families, and we feel confident that you will find it helpful and easy to use.  Students will use their Timothy email address as their username and will create their own password.  Before you get started, please take a few moments to watch the brief videos below to help you become familiar with how to use Scoir.
  • Individual student and parent meetings
    • Please contact Jon Huizinga (last names A-L) or Ann Raley (last names M-Z) if you’d like to schedule an in-person meeting to discuss your student’s college planning.
I hope you take advantage of these great resources. More opportunities will be available throughout the year as well, but this will give you a good head start.  If you should have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or my colleague, Ann Raley.

Looking forward to working with you and your student this year.
