The varsity boys competed this past weekend at the State cross country meet in Peoria at Detweiller Park. Despite the mud, rain and very windy conditions, they ran a great race! We knew this group was talented but also knew it would be tough to qualify for the state meet. They worked so hard all season and made it happen, earning a spot to run at state for the first time since 2017. There are 281 1A boys cross country teams in the state of Illinois. Our team finished 26th place at the state meet, only 6 points away from a top 25 finish! Cross country is a unique sport - there are no timeouts or breaks during the competition. Runners must push through pain and discomfort, deal with all sorts of weather, and have mental and physical stamina. This team showed perseverance, dedication and toughness all season and we are so proud of them. Congrats on an awesome season to Ryan McKenzie, Gio Molina, Tyce Plaisier, Rich Meszaros, Josh Bemister and especially to our seniors, Alex Becker and Luke Hubbard!
