Ten students competed at the IL DECA State Career Development Conference virtually during the first two weeks of February. There were over 1200 students competing from across the state. The awards ceremony was held on Saturday, March 6.

David Sianghio and Luke Voss qualified for Nationals by placing 4th in the Business Law & Ethics Team Decision Making Event. This is the first team that has qualified for National competition since DECA began at Timothy Christian High School in 2015.

Clarissa Chen & Winston Chen placed 5th in the event of Hospitality Services Team Decision Making missing National Qualification by one place.

All teams completed a 100 question test and a role-play scenario. This year’s competition looked different. Testing took place through an online system. The role-play was also provided through the system simulating what it would have been like if the students were in front of the judge. Students had access to the role-play for 30 minutes during the preparation time.  Following the preparation time, the students had 120 minutes to prepare and upload the video for evaluation. 

All Timothy State Competitors received a competency in their event, which means they received a 70% or higher in one or more areas in their event.  

DECA Nationals this year is taking place over a 3-week period beginning the week of April 12. This week David and Luke will take the competition test.  The next week they will complete the role-play. The third week they will compete again if they place Top 20 in their event.

In addition, National DECA is running an Emerging Leaders Conference that all our state competitors will participate in preparation for next year.
