Everybody Counts is back again this year with some exciting new opportunities for the students. For those unfamiliar with Everybody Counts, it’s a week-long program designed to inform students about various disorders and disabilities in hopes of inspiring acceptance and understanding of those who face different challenges.

Everybody Counts Week kicked off on September 20 with Nancy Goodfellow during grade school chapel. Nancy has a powerful message about acceptance and how the power of words can affect us all, regardless of different challenges we may face. Be sure to ask your kids about this!

Once again we’ve teamed up with Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) and their Program Director Jorie Meyer. Jorie is a Timothy alum and a current Timothy parent. She and her team bring some real hands-on experiences to our students to show them a glimpse of what it’s like to live with a disability. This has been well received in the past, so we’re very excited to have WDSRA back again.

Also helping us out this year is Christine Scholma, Assistant Professor of Special Education at Trinity Christian College. Christine has her college students pooling together some additional resources that families can look over together at home to learn more about different types of disabilities. Be sure to look for those packets, which will be sent home with your student at the conclusion of Everybody Counts week.

In addition to all this, we’re also excited to have speakers coming to each grade level to share personal experiences with our students throughout the week. Some are people living with various disabilities themselves, some are parents or family members of those living with disabilities, but all are passionate about teaching acceptance and understanding, so we’re grateful for their willingness to share their stories with us!

It is our prayer that each student will walk away from this week knowing God has purposefully designed each of us, and that He has blessed us with unique gifts that we can use to glorify Him. We’re blessed to have these opportunities to inspire our students to see things from different perspectives, and we’re looking forward to seeing our students be challenged in new ways!
