It has been a great start to a new school year, and the morning drop-off line has been no exception. Everything has been running smoothly from what we have been able to observe. Thank you!

We, the morning drop-off crew, would like to offer some friendly reminders and tips to help continue how well things have gone so far. Remember, our first and top priority is student safety, and second, efficiency. Please practice the following when dropping your children off in the morning:

  • Let’s each do our part to keep the drop-off/pick-up lane moving smoothly and safely. Please have your child(ren) ready with their belongings when you get to the approved drop-off area in the morning so they can carefully open the passenger side door and exit the vehicle into the safe zone. Out of respect for those behind you, please keep the line moving smoothly.
  • Please pull up as far as you can. If you are first in line, pull all the way around to the red “Drop Off Line Ends” sign.
  • Please have your children prepared to get out promptly once you come to a complete stop.
  • If you need to get out of your vehicle for any reason, please be courteous and park in one of the spots on the brick pavers.
  • Remember, this is a school parking lot, please drive slowly, not more than 10 mph.
  • Illinois lawprohibits hand-held cell phone use for all drivers. The same goes while you’re driving on school property.
  • Once in the drop-off line, please do not passthe vehicle in front of you. Students can be unpredictable and may suddenly come out of a driver’s side door or come around from in front of a vehicle. Please be patient and always stay in a single file line unless directed to pass by one of the morning drop-off crew.
  • Please do not drop off children at any point on Prospect Ave, either the east or west side of the street.  Traffic on Prospect is very busy and parked cars block visibility.  Crossing the street or stopping suddenly during morning drop-off is not safe and causes additional traffic backups.
  • We would like to maintain a friendly relationship with all of our neighbors. The Elm Creek apartments across the street have a private drive and should not be used by Timothy parents/students to avoid a backup on Prospect.  Also, cars entering the TCHS parking lot from Elm Creek going straight across Prospect disrupt the flow of traffic entering and exiting the parking lot and slow down the overall flow of traffic.
  • Lastly, students are allowed to enter the building at 8 am (8:15 on Wednesdays). There is little to no traffic before 8:02 am. If you arrive between 7:58-8:02 am, your child will be able to walk right inside, but it will also ease congestion between 8:05-8:15 am.

Our PM dismissal has also seen a smooth start to the school year! A couple reminders that apply to this time:

  • If you plan to get out of your car to pick up your child, please park in a parking space. Leaving a parked car along the sidewalks creates an interruption to the traffic flow as cars begin to move with pickups.
  • As you back up or leave a parking space, please do so with caution, as we have students and families walking through the lot to find their rides.
  • Remember, this is a school parking lot, please drive slowly, not more than 10 mph.
  • Please do not pick up your children along Prospect. It is too busy of a street to risk students getting in cars or crossing the street unattended.

Most importantly, let’s all remember to be patient with one another. Drop-off and pick-up can be stressful times for families at every large school in America. These are simply busy times of the day. Impatience during these times compromises safety, so let’s all be sure to model calmness and patience for our youth.

We hope the morning drop-off and afternoon pickup times can continue to run smoothly. If we all follow these reminders on a daily basis, everyone will be able to get in and out stress-free.

Thank you!
