Losing five seniors to graduation left a gaping hole in the leadership for the Lady Trojans when the season began. Coaches Groenewold and Rev Semeyn wondered who would step up and fill that void. As the season progressed, it became clear that juniors Grace Roland and Maddie Drye had stepped forward and led the team in every way. The team elected Maddie a co-captain when the season began and she and Grace led the team throughout the season. As it turned out, it wasn't only the coaches who noticed as they received special post-season recognition. Maddie was chosen for the All-tournament team after the Lisle Christmas Tournament. Maddie and Grace were both chosen for All-Conference in the Mid Suburban League. In addition, Grace was named to the Daily Herald DuPage County All-Region Team and earned an Honorable Mention All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. Grace received these accolades in spite of missing games the entire month of December due to an injury sustained in the Timothy Christian/IC Thanksgiving Tournament. "Maddie and Grace are leaders on and off the court. Maddie is a three sport athlete and both Maddie and Grace are members of the National Honor Society," commented the coaches. It is clear where leadership will come from for the Lady Trojans in the 2022-23 season!
