Rev. Peter Semeyn

The Timothy Christian Lady Trojans made the best of their COVID shortened season by posting a 14-2 overall record, 11-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference.

The IHSA announced that there would be a shortened season on January 27. Practices began February 1 and the Lady Trojans played their first game on February 6. The team crammed in 16 games in five weeks by playing three games a week, Thursday, Saturday and Monday. It was a dizzying pace, but the girls were very excited to have any kind of season and responded to the challenge.

Lead by 5 seniors, Sureya Alex, Sarah Carstensen, Greta Hoogstra, Christina Swiech and Hannah Schuringa the Lady Trojans dedicated themselves to aggressive defensive pressure which held opponents to a 27% field goal percentage and an average of 30 points per game. The Lady Trojans offense averaged 57 points per game.

The Lady Trojans only non-conference loss was a 50-47 decision to 4A Neuqua Valley. They defeated 4A Glenbard East, and 3A Ridgewood and Fenton. The only league loss was to Aurora Christian. The team finished the season with must win league games over Chicago Christian, Riverside Brookfield, Immaculate Conception, and Wheaton Academy. The season concluded on Senior Day, March 13, with a convincing 74-30 victory over Fenton.

Senior, Hannah Schuringa, finished her career with 1,492 career points, second all-time at Timothy Christian. She was only 52 points shy of the school record of 1,544.
