Rev. Peter Semeyn

On paper they didn't have a chance. Number 1 seed Chicago Noble/Butler, winner of the Westmont Regional, came to the Timothy Sectional to take on the Chicago Lawndale Charter School Regional winner Timothy Christian Lady Trojans. Noble/Butler had two D1 recruits on their roster. Senior Camille Jackson has received a full-ride to University of Illinois. Sophomore Camila Walton has already drawn interest from over 20 D1 programs. In addition, they started two other players over 6ft tall. The Lady Trojans have no D1 recruits and start 6'2" Grace Roland, 5'9" Maddie Drye and 3 other players 5'7" or shorter. On paper the Lady Trojans didn't have a chance.

But the Lady Trojans gave Butler everything they could ask for before succumbing 48-45.

The Lady Trojans used a deliberate style that tried to counteract Butler's full court pressure and then used their inside, outside attack featuring Grace Roland inside and Maddie Drye on the perimeter to take the game down to the wire. The other 3 Lady Trojan starters, Mili Martens, Tegan Gunn and Ella Vandermolen played key roles as well as substitutes Julia Voss, Sami Drye and Kailey Jirsa.  In addition to her always stalwart defensive work, Vandermolen played the best all-around game of her varsity career.

In the end Maddie Drye (pictured above) had 15 points and Grace Roland 14 (pictured below). In a fitting tribute to the leadership they provided all year, Roland and Drye made the All-Conference team.

Coaches Jill Groenewold and "Rev" Semeyn were very proud of the effort put forth by the team. "It was probably the best we have played all year. The girls executed the game plan to perfection and played their hearts out against a formidable foe. We couldn't be more proud of them."
