This year our local VFW post hosted the Patriot’s Pen competition. This is a VFW sponsored youth essay competition that gives students an opportunity to write an essay expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. The theme this year was “ What Patriotism Means To Me.” On average about 138,000 middle school students enter this national contest.
Our 8th graders also wrote an essay and these were submitted last fall. We are excited to announce that Carly Brush took first place on the local level. There is a monetary award associated with this honor. Carly, her parents, and Mrs. Sytsma attended a short ceremony on Monday, January 11. The rest of the students were honored here at Timothy because of Covid the reception was limited to the first place winner only. The following students also received money because they placed within the top ten.
