Matt Davidson, Superintendent

We are tremendously blessed by the commitment of our School Board. They are a united team with unwavering courage, inspiring vision, and a contagious passion for Christian education. The 2021-2022 Board of Directors is the team that navigated our school through one of the most significant and historic years in our 111 year history. We spent plenty of time in thought, research, discussion, debate, and even spent 36 hours without state recognition…and we certainly spent time in prayer. All the while, our board stayed united…and did not flinch in any circumstance. Across the state we were labeled “the tip of the spear” and ultimately described as “breaking the dam” on making masks optional (parental choice) this year. As I reflect on this year, our board was perfectly assembled by God for this school year in particular.

Our school is widely considered one of the premier schools in all of Chicagoland and one of the flagships among Christian schools everywhere. We have an excellent program of education, a strong arts program with a rich tradition, an athletic program noted for high achievement, and an unwavering conviction to train, equip and inspire this generation of young people to change the world for Jesus Christ.

We are a school of multiple generations and yet also a school with many new families joining the team each year. Over 220 churches are represented at Timothy Christian School and over 60 different communities. Our school operates without debt and holds Foundation assets over $5.5MM, while maintaining one of the lowest tuition rates in the area among comparable schools. Moreover, we have raised and invested nearly $60MM into our school campus, facilities, programs, and initiatives since 2010!  And, yes, our enrollment continues to grow. We’ve officially hit record enrollment and next year is shaping up to look even stronger. The list goes on…but you get the picture—we have a great school!

Our school is strong primarily due to the leadership of our school board and their conviction to work for the glory of God. They do not subscribe to the world’s playbook, which has only led to failure over and over again. Rather, our board stands firmly on God’s promises…and on Biblical virtues and values. God has used this group to dream big, to pursue successful outcomes, and to achieve great things. We have several board members finishing their final term this year. It is appropriate to honor these board members. Please take a few moments to read some thoughts of mine on each of these outgoing board members…and then be sure to say “THANK YOU!” the next time you see them. God has used each of them in mighty ways.

In alphabetical order:

Jeff Dorsey: Getting to know Jeff and his family over the years has been a great blessing. Our school is better and stronger with Team Dorsey, and it’s been an honor to serve with Jeff and also to count him as a dear friend. Jeff has served on our Marketing Committee along with our Technology & Innovation Committee. His professional background and skills have proven to be valuable for our school. He brings innovative and exciting ideas to the table. He is creative and always presents new initiatives in a compelling manner. Jeff is sincere…and loves our students here at Timothy. He is a man with the rare combination of deep conviction and yet also possesses the ability to wisely compromise. I admire this about Jeff. We could all learn from him.

PJ Huizenga: I’ve interacted with many strong leaders during the course of my lifetime, and among the most courageous I’ve ever known is PJ Huizenga – our Board President. PJ also serves on the Timothy Foundation Board with me. Of course PJ and his family have been long-time lead benefactors to our school, but even more importantly he has promoted excellence in every square inch of our school. PJ has been a force behind our Blue Ribbon status, our CESA accreditation, our revised governing documents and bylaws; every capital campaign during my career, and so much more. PJ stood firmly by my side during the mask roller coaster ride throughout the year; he worked behind the scenes with leaders to support our cause; and he never stopped fighting for our students – your kids. I count PJ as a business partner and one of my closest friends. He is a brother to me. His term as Board President has been both extraordinary and historic.

Tim Stanton: One of the most intelligent, thoughtful, and contemplative board members I’ve ever worked with at any school is Tim Stanton. He has always taken his role seriously. I have 2 kids of the same age as Tim's so we’ve known each other for many years – sitting at plenty of ball games and other Timothy events. Our friendship goes back a few years. Tim has served as the Chair of the Extracurricular Committee and has also served on our Education Committee. He is a strong listener and genuinely considers all points of view in a meeting. He welcomes good dialogue and collaboration and appreciates outcomes that are thoroughly vetted. Tim always leads and acts with professionalism. I’ve learned a lot from Tim over the years and respect him dearly.

Brian Stolzenbach: No different than the others mentioned here, Brian is also a friend. I trust him. In every discussion on every matter, Brian will make certain every stone is turned over. His attention to detail is exceptional, and our school has been blessed with Brian’s insight over the years. Brian has served on our Extracurricular Committee and our Advancement & Stewardship Committee. Brian leads with integrity. It is refreshing to serve with someone like Brian. I always know where he stands…and he always stands with respect and love. Brian also leads with humility. No task is too small or beneath him. He doesn’t covet the spotlight, and he treats everyone the same. Brian’s influence on our board has been influential over the years.

I’ll never forget the 2021-2022 Timothy Board of Directors. “For such a time as this…”

Press on, Timothy.
