STATE BOUND: Girls Cross Country Punches Ticket to IHSA State Meet

Coach Erica Plaisier

Last Saturday, the girls cross country team accomplished what had not been done at Timothy in over 20 years by winning the Lisle 1A Sectional. All seven of our runners had important roles and made incredible impacts on the score. Bringing home a Sectional Championship for the first time since 2003, the girls ran strategically and passed several runners from the other top-four teams in the final 600 meters to win the meet by two points—beating out two top-20 state-ranked teams (Manteno and Chicago Christian) and the Regional Champion (Harvest Christian).

Sophomores Addison Butler and Phoebe Leppink had PRs, running their fastest times when we needed it most. Sophomore Maddie Turner ran a season-best time, while co-captains Ella Potoshnick and Sienna Azzinaro and junior Eden Moore passed key opponents to bring home the victory. There were just seven points between the first- and fourth-place teams, proving that every passed runner matters in a cross country race. Freshman Lyla Plaisier also ran a PR on the 5K course and finished third overall, earning All-Sectional honors.

After months of dedication and hard work, the team is excited to compete this weekend at the State Meet in Peoria.
