Team Timothy:

Perhaps you’ve seen the recent announcement from the CDC regarding covid strategies for schools in the fall, along with the immediate responses from the IDPH and ISBE. There appears to be some confusion between these agencies, which is prompting many questions from Illinois school leaders. I’m in a group of 279 (and growing!) superintendents from across the state of Illinois -- mostly public schools. This group is committed to winning the battle of regaining local control of our schools, which is already the plan in plenty of other states. (As a matter of fact, the majority of states in America have already declared local control for schools.) Although each school represented in this growing superintendent’s network might have differing opinions on acceptable health plans, we all agree that these decisions should be left up to local school boards and administrations. For example, no one knows the Timothy community like we do.

Given the amount of confusion in Illinois right now, I felt it was important to assure everyone that our health plan for the fall has not changed. 

Over the last year-and-a-half, I haven’t taken many days off work. Of course, these announcements occurred on the one day I decided to take off for an extended weekend in Holland, MI. Furthermore, of course it had to be on this day when WGN called me for another brief interview as part of a larger story. Given the fact that I was out of town and on a short vacation, the interview was over Zoom. (And I was wearing the nicest shirt I had in my bag.) The segment aired 5 times!
