Go Beyond.

Justin Horne

STEM is an acronym that many people have become familiar with over the past decade. It stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Some schools expanded it to STEAM to include Art. STEM labs, instructors, and classes are becoming commonplace in schools around the world because people realize the need to expand our instruction in these areas. Here at Timothy, we’ve also seen the value and added in things like Maker’s Week, Hour of Code, which is a new science curriculum that is hands on and relies heavily on group work. Yet, there is an opportunity to Go Beyond when it comes to STEAM here at Timothy. It begins with what we do best, and that is to put God at the center of everything. That’s why next year we’ll be introducing STREAM Class for grades 1-6.

The “R” in STREAM stands for Religion. If you’ve ever read one of Louie Giglio’s family devotion books about God and science, you already know that our creator is at the center of everything. Did you know that it’s a 1 in 70 Quintillion (70 with 18 more zeros) chance our planet is in the right place to support life? In math, the famous Fibonacci Sequence is overwhelming evidence of a Creator and can be found in nature everywhere from flowers, pinecones, to the curvature of animals’ tusks. While this class may look similar to what you’ve heard of STEM labs and programs to be, we will put God at the forefront of what we do. We are excited to be able to combine this new class within our existing computer schedule and expand it from there in the fall.

In the weeks ahead we’ll share more about the new teacher for this class as well as some of the exciting opportunities it will provide for our students.
