Follow The Leader

Abby Wolterstorff β€²21

At Timothy, every child has the opportunity to take charge and fully explore their leadership abilities. Whether it’s in robotics, mentoring younger students through the Kindness Crew, mastering strategy in chess club, or performing in drama or band, these activities encourage leadership and innovation. Timothy students are inspired to lead with boldness.

“God will never leave you stranded. He always sees you,” said Norah Brehm at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. Norah was one of the eighth grade students who attended the trip with staff and faculty. When there was a time for devotions and prayer, Norah’s teachers knew she would be the perfect choice to lead the group.

“Leaders have the confidence to speak up, the loyalty to connect with others and truly know them, and the kindness to use words and actions in the right way.”

“Norah is justice-driven! She is bold and always willing to share her faith and thoughts,” said Corrine Hansen, Norah’s eighth grade English teacher. “During our time in D.C., she fully embraced the experience. She gained insight not only into our country but also into herself and her classmates.”

Another of Norah’s teachers, Kendra Pasek, added, “She is a strong leader with her positive energy and attitude, and she’s always willing to jump in and help when needed.” Kendra has continued to be impressed with Norah’s willingness to lead her peers in Biblical discussion during Bible class.

“A leader is someone who stands up for themselves and others,” said Norah. “Leaders have the confidence to speak up, the loyalty to connect with others and truly know them, and the kindness to use words and actions in the right way.”

Norah has been encouraged to be a leader by influential people at home and at school. “My mom has pushed me to be a better leader by helping me choose positive actions and words,” she explained. In addition, Norah mentioned that the friends she has made and the teachers at Timothy have had a significant impact on her leadership skills. “It is different being at Timothy because the teachers want you to be here,” she said. “They are able to talk through different situations with us and lead us in prayer.”

Norah Brehm is one of Timothy’s courageous leaders—but she believes anyone can lead like her. “Others will follow you when they realize that you set a good example,” she said. “I understand that it can be hard at first, but it is important to have confidence!”
