The Trojans defeated crosstown rival Immaculate Conception High School on Friday night to capture the Regional Championship! With the victory, the Timothy Christian girls have now won nine straight games, and the soccer program overall has captured at least a regional title in seven consecutive seasons in which the tournament was played.
The Trojans earned a 10-1 victory in a game shortened by the mercy rule. Leading the scoring attack were Mackenzie Laslo with four goals, Mia Schilf with three, Kylee Zielke with two, and Lydia Kwak with one. Annika Lemkuil recorded three assists, while Laslo added three assists of her own. Ella Becvar, Schilf, and Zielke each contributed one assist as well.
Timothy once again controlled possession throughout the match, with the entire team working beautifully together to move the ball across the field and create scoring opportunities.
The evening was made even more special by the tremendous home crowd that came out to support the girls. The energy and encouragement from the Timothy community meant a great deal to the team and helped create a memorable championship atmosphere.
The Trojans now advance to sectional play, which will also be hosted at Timothy. The girls face Lycee Francais de Chicago tonight. A win would send them to the sectional championship game at Timothy on Friday evening at 6:00pm.
