Cold Morning, Hot Finish for Timothy’s Fishing Team

Coach Todd Lindemulder

It was a cold morning for Timothy’s Fishing Team on Braidwood Lake. With temperatures in the 30s and steam rising off the lake, the day began early with the boat launch at 6:30 a.m. Despite the frigid start, the young anglers quickly warmed things up with impressive catches and strong finishes across divisions.

Timothy’s Fishing Team entered the tournament with three high school boats and one middle school boat.

Out of 52 high school boats in the tournament, two of Timothy’s boats landed top-ten finishes—a huge achievement for such a young program. Ronie Tazelaar and Cole Younglove finished sixth, while Caleb Lindemulder and Levi Tameling placed seventh in the high school division. Levi also landed the largest fish for the team and took second place overall in the high school big fish competition.

The younger anglers made their mark as well. In the junior division, Sam Ahlenius caught the biggest fish and, alongside Emmett McQuade, took first place overall.

Team success wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of volunteer boat captains Ron Tazelaar, Steve Wiegers, Tim Ahlenius, and Paul Sterenberg. A special thanks also goes to Scott DuBois for helping Tim with the junior boat. The team’s results were especially impressive considering that all but one student on the top boats had less than two tournaments of experience.

We look forward to finishing the season strong in our final regular-season tournament and to competing in the upcoming IHSA high school state championship series.
