Our fearless leader, Matt Davidson turns 50 on January 23 —make sure you wish him a Happy Birthday! So we thought it would be a perfect time to give you a small glimpse into a day in the life of Matt Davison at Timothy.
Pick a day, any day of the week, and you’ll find Superintendent Matt Davidson in the high school — encouraging and talking with students as they make their way to class. He calls them out by name. He remembers who plays basketball, who loves theater, who is a musician. It’s also not unusual for him to be on the playground, talking to our youngest students.
It’s these personal connections that define Mr. Davidson and ultimately Timothy Christian Schools. It’s also these connections — the ones that inspire our youth to dream, excel and work hard — that ultimately pushed Mr. Davidson to accomplish what many thought was impossible — safely open a school for in-person learning during a pandemic.
And on August 19, he did just that.
The students at Timothy are thriving because Mr. Davidson is a true champion for them! Indeed, things look different this year. Everyone wears a mask, desks are socially distanced, most are surrounded by plexiglass. Music students wear special ponchos to help curb the spread of COVID. Teachers wear microphones so e-learners who pop up on iPads can hear the lesson.
But students and staff alike have adapted to these precautions, which allows everyone to focus on what Timothy Christian Schools does best — and that’s helping students develop and grow socially, academically, and spiritually.
Understanding some families feel more comfortable with remote learning, Mr. Davidson included home learning in the Education Plan. This allows parents to decide if their child should attend in-person school or learn remotely. The Education Plan has allowed students to seamlessly transition between in-person and synchronous virtual learning.
During a normal school year, Mr. Davidson attends every game, concert, and competition, oftentimes attending multiple school events a day. But with COVID restrictions, those traditional events have been canceled. However, Mr. Davidson still manages to connect with the community. Over the summer, he launched Late Night With Davidson, an online variety show that had an audience of all ages, he continued his weekly Bible study with students first virtually, then eventually socially distanced.
Mr. Davidson is steadfastly focused on the best interest of every student during a worldwide pandemic. For the past 10 years, Mr. Matt Davidson has been a steady man of genuine faith, Biblical wisdom, and leadership as the Superintendent of Timothy Christian Schools. To the Timothy community he is part CEO, part teacher, part mentor, and the biggest fan of the students.
And that’s why he’s often found mingling with students at lunch, or leading a Bible study on Wednesday morning, or now in the COVID-climate, joining Zoom concerts, and drive-by parties.
His enthusiasm for students’ success is contagious.
Mr. Davidson once told me: “I want our students to learn three things from me. One, find something that you really enjoy and love. Two, try to be the best at it. Three, do it for the glory of God.”
