Matt Davidson

Someone recently asked me how many nights of the week I’m actually home. The answer is not many. If it’s not a Timothy event like a concert, ballgame, performance, or meeting; it’s often related to Timothy – dinner with Timothy families at a restaurant or one another’s homes, an event together, or even supporting Timothy students in their interests outside of school. Of course there are also precious family get-togethers and time with my grandson is always special (and two more grandkids on the way this spring!). Then on top of it all, there are commitments to church, non-profit organizations and ministries, boards that I serve on, groups connected to the private school movement statewide and beyond, and plenty of other good causes.

The person who asked me the question almost seemed to display a sense of pity as I shared all of this; however, I was quick to note that it’s what I love…and I wouldn’t change a thing. During this stretch of life, my wife, Julie, joins me for a lot of these evening commitments. It’s turned into a great way for us to spend time together.

The other night Julie & I were returning home from another event, which we’ve had plenty of lately, and something dawned on both of us. Seemingly every good cause in Chicagoland has Timothy people behind it – as staff, as board members, as volunteers, and as donors. We marvel at the number of times we attend an event and see folks from Timothy Christian Schools – it happens every single time.

Matt at a Timothy event (which are his favorite!).

The Timothy community goes beyond the boundaries of our 26 acres in Elmhurst. It is a force in DuPage County, Chicagoland, our state, America, and even extends around the globe.

The commitment to our faith here at Timothy goes beyond an intellectual learning about the Bible. What good would it do if we just stayed in holy huddles and never actually “took the field?” The faith of those in the Timothy community has been fully activated into bringing about change for the cause of Christ – transformation.

We’re not perfect…and we continue to grow. But this community is an inspiration to me in so many ways. As life-long and servant leaders, we are making a difference for Jesus and bringing light into darkness in so many places. As we enter the Thanksgiving season, I’m grateful for Timothy Christian Schools – the people who make up our school, the members of Team Timothy…I’m grateful for you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
