Our school is widely considered one of the premier schools in all of Chicagoland and one of the flagships in the greater Christian school movement. We have a national and state Blue Ribbon program of education, a strong arts program with a rich tradition, an athletic program noted for high achievement, and an unwavering conviction to train, equip and inspire this generation of young people to change the world for Jesus Christ.
We are a school of multiple generations and yet also a school with many new families joining the team each year. Over 200 churches are represented at Timothy Christian School and over 70 different communities. Our school operates without long term debt and holds Foundation assets over $5.5MM, while maintaining some of the lowest tuition rates in the area among schools of similar size and programming. Moreover, we have raised and invested over $75MM into our school campus, facilities, programs, initiatives, and real estate acquisitions since 2010. And, yes, our enrollment continues to hit capacity. The list goes on…but you get the picture – we have a great school!
Our school is strong largely due to the leadership of our school board and their conviction to work unto the glory of God. God has used this group to dream big, to pursue successful outcomes, and to achieve great things. We have several board members finishing their term this year. Although some will stay on for another term, others are departing from their role on the board. It is appropriate to honor these board members who are finishing strong. Please take a moment to review the bio of these outgoing board members below…and be sure to say “thanks” the next time you see them. God has used each of them in mighty ways. These men and women love your children and they love Jesus.
Stephanie Huizinga
Stephanie has been a faithful member of the board for six years. During her terms, she has served primarily on the Education Committee and the Marketing Committee. Stephanie always brings a reflective point of view and never rushes to an important decision. She is contemplative, thoughtful, and prayerful in her approach to leadership – which is something I greatly admire. Over the years, I have grown and learned from serving alongside Stephanie. Her commitment to the mission of Timothy Christian Schools is firm, and our school is stronger because of her.
Tom Vander Veen
Tom is also finishing up his second term on the board and has been an influential and expert voice in our Finance & Operations Committee. Over the years, Tom’s insights have proven to be incredibly valuable to our fiscal vital signs. He has also served as the chair of the Advancement & Stewardship Committee, thus helping our school on both the expense and revenue side. Our school has witnessed extraordinary fundraising totals during Tom’s terms on the board. Tom possesses a business acumen that has been a material blessing to our school in so many ways, and he’s been a champion for our mission.
Alisa Van Hekken
Alisa has been a solid contributor to our Education Committee and I.T. Committee – obviously both committees with a direct link to our program of education. She has a high level of expertise in education, and her insights have been incredibly valuable. She has a highly successful background in education and has been a critical voice. Alisa is committed to excellence and is a seeker of best practices. You’ll see Alisa at school frequently – as a volunteer, a fan in the bleachers, a mom, and even as a sub. Alisa and her family are a blessing to Timothy in countless ways.
Karen Veldman
Karen has played key roles on the board in both the Advancement & Stewardship Committee, along with the Extracurricular Committee. Her genuine love for our school is visible to anyone who knows her. Karen has served our community in such a humble manner. She doesn’t seek the spotlight and faithfully seeks to give God the glory in all things. Over the years, Karen has especially held our performing arts program dear to her heart. She has been a catalyst for growth in the program, and her passion has been contagious. Karen has been a trusted voice on our board.
