Middle School Whiz Kid

Allison Tandy’s favorite subjects are math and science. Formulas and equations have always come naturally to her, and she loves solving math problems. She's so advanced that, as a current eighth-grader, she attends the high school for honors geometry and honors biology—classes typically slated for advanced freshmen. But Allison is ready for the challenge.
“I love the teachers in the high school,” Allison said. “Mr. Piersma, my honors geometry teacher, is one of my favorites. He really helps us understand everything.”
Allison transferred to Timothy in sixth grade. “I used to go to public school,” Allison explains, “and, of course, nothing was connected back to God. At Timothy, I can talk about my relationship with God or ask how things connect back to the Bible.”
For Allison, a Biblically-rooted education was especially important in Honors Biology, where she studied the intricate structure and function of living organisms and systems. These organisms aren’t just here by happenstance. It all comes back to a loving Creator. “I like connecting everything back to God and our Creator,” Allison says.
But attending high school classes as an eighth grader is more than just academics. “I’ve made friends,” Allison says. “The high schoolers are really welcoming, and it’s fun to get to know older people.”
Allison’s freshman schedule is packed with honors classes, but she’s also eagerly looking forward to joining athletic teams and exploring new extracurricular activities. “I really like middle school,” Allison says. “I’ll miss it, but I just think high school is going to be a lot more fun.”
