Stand Firm, Stand Together
Matt Davidson
Team Timothy:
I’ve just finished my 31st year in Christian education and my 14th year at Timothy Christian Schools. Ordinarily there is nothing special about the number 14. However, for me, that means I’m entering year 15 – which will be the longest stay I’ve had out of the three Christian schools I’ve served at. This coming school year will also be the first year I’ve ever led a school with a grandchild as a student. My oldest grandson will be in preschool this fall.
It has been the greatest honor of my professional life to be a part of this community.
Believe it or not, I have more energy than I’ve ever had for this work – which is good because I am fully convinced that our mission has never been more important. As I interact with Christian schools and their leaders across the country, K-12 and higher learning, it’s clear to me that there is an onslaught taking place against our movement. As I witness attacks against Christian education, it can be knee-buckling at times. How can we stand against such a dreadfully powerful enemy? Most of you reading this already know the answer. Not only can we stand…but we can win. As a matter of fact, victory is guaranteed as we remain steadfast in our conviction to bring glory to God in all of our ways.
1 Corinthians 15:57-58 says: "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
There are plenty of powerful words in those verses from Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church. But I’d like to pull out one of the words that we tend to skip over. The word “us.” “He gives ‘us’ the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” It’s important to stand firm, even immovably, and the Bible makes it clear that we ought to do it together.
It won’t be long before we start our 114th year here at Timothy Christian Schools. A goal I have for the upcoming school year is that we will continue to build togetherness – an even deeper commitment to teamwork.
In a ParentPulse survey from the 2023-2024 school year, we were very pleased with the results. The database that drives the benchmarks for ParentPulse is composed of many exceptional Christian schools nationwide. We exceeded the benchmarks of other Christian schools across the country in nearly every category and often by several points. As a matter of fact, our results were so strong that we have actually won an award! We are among the top Christian schools in America to earn this highly coveted Net Promoter Score award. With record enrollments and wait pools at nearly every grade level, this probably doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. (You can read about this award and the overall results of our survey on the next page.)
One thing we heard over and over is that our parents want to be involved, to get plugged-in, and to roll up their sleeves to help advance the mission. As your teammate and partner in education, I love to see parents on campus volunteering! It makes us stronger. This is what makes us Team Timothy. As we’ve grown larger, my desire is that we also grow “smaller” at the same time – that every family here at Timothy Christian Schools genuinely feels a deep sense of teamwork. We’re launching some new initiatives to open more doors for students and parents to get plugged into the mission of Timothy Christian Schools.
Here at Timothy Christian Schools, we value the importance of teamwork. Our mission is too important to settle for anything less. Our children and grandchildren are counting on us. As we stand together in this mission, firmly, we will see victory.
Standing firmly with you,
Matt Davidson
