Peter Huizenga Remembered
Michael VanDerAa

On Thursday, November 15, 2019, The Timothy Foundation Board of Directors honored the life and legacy of inaugural board Chairman and lifelong Timothy supporter, Peter Huizenga (1939-2018), at a private ceremony with the Huizenga family.

During the ceremony, members of Peter’s family, including Peter’s wife of 50 years, Heidi Huizenga, the Foundation Board, and Superintendent, Matt Davidson, spoke about Peter’s passion for the cause of Timothy. Following the unveiling of a bronze memorial plaque, Heidi powerfully addressed the group with gratitude and inspiring words to carry on Peter’s legacy.

Peter, the only Chairman of the Timothy Foundation since its inception in 1978, played an instrumental role in strengthening the mission of Timothy Christian Schools throughout his life. This included, but was not limited to, his work on the Foundation Board. The Foundation, which started through the single bequest of Peter’s aunt, “Aunt Tena” Huizenga, grew from $28,000 to over $4.5 million during his lifetime, making an education at Timothy possible for thousands of children whose families otherwise might not have afforded it.

The plaque was made possible thanks to a generous gift from Peter’s law firm partners and friends at Hlustik, Huizenga, Williams & Vander Woude, Ltd. in Chicago and is now mounted near the elementary school office. The inscription on the plaque follows.

Peter Huizenga

~Timothy Christian’s Champion and Beloved Friend~

Peter Huizenga went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 2 of 2019 at 6:00pm. Timothy Christian Schools will always remember Peter Huizenga. He was a warrior for our school and for the Lord. He was a leader, our greatest benefactor, a past board member and past board president for multiple terms, and the only chairman of the Timothy Foundation since its beginning in 1978.

Peter Huizenga was a difference-maker and the man that God has used more than anyone in our history to strengthen the mission of Timothy Christian Schools. Well done, Peter. Your legacy lives on! We will miss you — and we will see you again. We accept your challenge to courageously press on for the cause of Timothy Christian Schools — to train, equip, and inspire our youth to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.
Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,
because you know that your
labor in the Lord is not in vain.
