Arnold (“Arnie”) Hoving went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2021. He had served at Timothy for 36 years from 1958 to 1994. During his legendary career at Timothy, he served as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. He served as our superintendent for 17 years, and to this day his career is considered legendary. Arnie was also a long-standing member of the Timothy Christian Foundation.

Over the years, Arnie had been one of Timothy’s story-tellers. No one knew our history like Arnie. He had an extraordinary ability to recall names, events, and details, and everyone who knew Arnie marveled at this unique gift. Arnie was a guardian of the biblical values and virtues of Timothy Christian Schools. Although he was a change-agent during his career at Timothy, he was also a lover of tradition. This combination and hard-to-achieve balance earned him widespread respect.

Arnie was a man of conviction, determined and bold. He was a warrior for Christ and unashamed of the gospel. He impacted the lives of so many people and was a mentor to other Christian school leaders. Current Timothy superintendent Matt Davidson regularly spent time talking with Arnie — thus successfully passing along his wisdom to Timothy even up to his homecoming with Jesus. 

Too many young people today do not consider school officials to be leaders. Without this important modeling, it is becoming increasingly rare for our strongest leaders in America’s high schools to consider education as a profession. Arnie Hoving inspired many into education! He proved that the best schools have leadership, not bureaucracy. The top schools are led by decision-makers, not followers.

A secular point of view would suggest that Timothy is weaker without Arnie. However, as followers of Christ we know that the beat goes on...the mission must continue! It’s up to us, the Timothy community, to carry the torch. The best way to honor the life and the purpose of Arnie Hoving is to courageously keep the main thing the main thing here at Timothy Christian Schools.
