May 15, 2021 was a GREAT day to be a Trojan! Over 1200 people attended Timothy’s (outdoor) Homecoming festivities. There was something for all ages throughout the afternoon — pony rides (a first!), a petting zoo, inflatables, knockerball, and even human foosball. 

A special thanks goes to Chris Veldman and his talented ServiceMaster team who cooked out for over 1000 people. They fired up their grills early in the morning, ready to serve the entire Timothy community an unbelievable meal and dessert — maple bacon cupcakes, anyone?!

Every year we honor a Distinguished Alumni. Ardythe Tiesenga (Class of ’49) was honored this year. She started the Picture Lady program at Timothy 50 years ago and still volunteers to this day! She is a true servant-leader.

We also honored Taylor Hoogendoorn (Class of ’11) for our inaugural Outstanding Young Alumni award. He is currently serving as a Supreme Court Clerk to Justice Samuel Alito. Taylor has kept the “Main Thing the Main Thing” throughout his studies at Baylor University, Yale Law School, and into his young career. 

The State-qualifying Timothy Christian High School Cheer team performed in front of an audience for the first time this year, and our pep band entertained the crowd with its first live performance of the year as well. CJ James and Hannah Schuringa were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

Our Lady Trojans capped off a day of athletic competitions by handily defeating cross-town rivals IC Catholic Prep and the Class of 2000 held a mini reunion with a tent reserved just for them.  

We ended the night with fireworks (a first for Timothy! And the city of Elmhurst!). 

As red and white fireworks exploded over the campus, it was another reminder of how very special the entire Timothy community is. Grandparents, parents, alumni, students of all ages, faculty and staff were spread out on the soccer field watching the magnificent display of fireworks paint the night sky. It was in equal parts a celebration of Homecoming as well as making it through this Mission Impossible school year. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing community, who wholeheartedly believe in Timothy’s mission and have rooted for us, prayed for us, and supported us. 

But this support is not a first — it’s been going on for generations! The very heart of Timothy is constant. And so is our mission. Everything we do is for the glory of God. 

It was indeed a great day to be a Trojan.
