Seismic Shift
Rev. Peter Semeyn

Earthquakes that can damage homes and entire communities begin with a relatively small, seismic shift along the crust of the earth. These seismic shifts can roll for miles, and the aftershocks can continue for days.

For Dr. Allyn Schaub, such a seemingly small shift occurred in her life in 2017.

Dr. Schaub was part of a thriving obstetrics practice. She and husband, Dr. Gary Kronen, had two children. Their life plan was working itself out.

But in 2017 one of Dr. Schaub’s patients led her to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That’s when everything began to shift.

Now in her 40’s, Dr. Schaub wanted to pursue a relationship with Jesus. One of her early realizations was that she needed to find a church home where she could grow in her faith, find a sense of community, and that had a youth program for her daughters. She found a church home, but the changes kept coming.

When you meet Jesus for the first time, your values, priorities, and perspective all change. You are looking at life through a new set of lenses. A church home was an important step for Allyn to grow in her newfound faith. She and her children, Lilly and Emerson, made friends at their church and felt at home. It was a true faith community. However, it left them hungry for more.

“The academics are robust, community is a priority, and the caring displayed by the staff and students has been impressive.”

Allyn and Gary realized that their children didn’t have any Christian friends in their neighborhood or local school, and they didn’t feel their children were being challenged enough academically in the local public schools. They felt a need for a change and began to explore options. They had some acquaintances whose children attended Timothy and decided to consider Timothy Christian Schools as an option. When they first applied to Timothy, there was no room for their oldest, Lilly, in 6th grade, but in 2021/22 there was room for her in 7th grade. This year Lilly (7th grade) and Emerson (1st grade) both attended Timothy.

All change is difficult. For children who are changing schools in their middle school years, it can be even more challenging. However, Allyn and Gary are very pleased with the way the year has gone. “The academics are robust, community is a priority, and the caring displayed by the staff and students has been impressive,” Allyn stated.

The caring community at Timothy is one of the aspects of the educational experience that longtime Timothy parents may take for granted. Allyn and Gary commented, “Teachers, administrators, and students have been sensitive to the fact that Lilly is new and have helped with her adaptation. They have also been diligent in making sure Lilly is fitting in and finding her way.”

The faith component of Timothy has been a difference maker. Some of it happens in obvious and overt ways. Chapel, Bible classes, and open prayer times are just part of the day at Timothy. But some of the differences cannot be quantified. The atmosphere, values, and priorities that are inherent in Christ-followers make a difference. Timothy was the perfect choice for their children’s education.

Allyn and Gary have been intentional about immersing themselves in the Timothy experience. They have attended plays, concerts, and athletic events and have been impressed with the excellence demonstrated, as well as the commitment and support of the extended Timothy family.

“The experience of our children at Timothy has been very positive. People have been friendly, helpful and inclusive. We are very pleased with the way our children are challenged academically,” commented Gary.

It all began in 2017 with what seemed like a small shift in Allyn’s life, but the changes stretched out across her entire family. Making the decision to embrace a relationship with Jesus seemed like a personal decision, but that decision has impacted the entire family in positive and unexpected ways. Timothy has been a true Godsend!
