Timothy Christian Golf Outing & Athletic Fundraiser
Michael VanDerAa

The 2019 proceeds provided equipment, facilities, and other program-related expenses that makes Timothy’s athletics one of the finest programs in its conference.

As part of Timothy’s mission to develop servant leaders who fully live out their purpose in the world for Christ, the whole student is considered. There is no aspect of a student’s development and potential that Timothy wants to be left untrained when they leave campus. It is a commitment, grown out of our acknowledgment that God created all things for His glory, that compels us to take athletics, arts and other extracurricular activities just as seriously as we do our academics. These programs are not mere supplements to education, but equally important training grounds for maturing our students.

Athletics offers countless opportunities to grow in Christ-likeness.

In the case of athletics — whether winning or losing, practicing or competing — students have the opportunity to develop Christ-like character, relationships, and physical, emotional and spiritual endurance. Whether it’s a coach leading devotionals before practice, a team captain fostering friendships among teammates, or players reminding each other about God’s priorities after a difficult loss, athletics offers countless opportunities to grow in Christ-likeness. It is because of these opportunities that the Advancement Department, with the help of the Golf Committee, hosts the annual Golf Outing and Athletic Fundraiser to raise money for the program.

Typically raising over $100,000, and raising $160,000 in 2019, the proceeds from this event provide equipment, facilities and other program-related expenses that make Timothy one of the finest athletic programs in its conference. This year, ninety sponsors, parents and friends of Timothy, helped set a new fundraising record, which will help fund all of our middle school and high school athletic teams.

While athletics is, first and foremost, a training ground for student formation, athletics also helps students reach their God-given athletic potential. The financial support raised by the Golf Outing is an important factor in making this possible, and the event models the same competitive, relational, honorable sportsmanship and God-honoring fun that is expected from our student athletes.

“It always impresses me that we can have so much fun as a community at this event while at the same time doing something so significant and impactful for our student athletes and coaches,” Robert Venhousen says. “I am very thankful for our donors, golfers, and volunteers who make this all possible — all in one day! God is good!”

If you’re interested in learning more about how you can be a part of the Golf Outing and Athletics Fundraiser in the future, please contact Bob Venhousen (’79) at venhousen@timothychristian.com. Timothy would also like to extend a special thank you to its many volunteers and Golf Committee members who made this year’s event possible: Mike Alles, Jami Brighty, Curt Carstensen, Steve DeBoer, Jim Marshall, Rob Orange, Chad Tameling and Chris Valdez; and, staff members: Julie Davidson, Matt Davidson, Jay Evenhouse, Jack LeGrand, and Robert Venhousen.
