When Timothy Christian Schools senior Ryan Bochat walked into the DuPage County Coroner’s Office on the first day of his internship, he knew it wouldn’t be your typical high school experience. It wasn’t—and that’s exactly what made it so valuable.

During Renew, junior Bella Bouman had an unforgettable internship at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland! She teamed up with a Structural Dynamics Test Engineer at NASA’s cutting-edge Integration and Testing Complex—a facility that includes the Spacecraft Systems Development and Integration Facility, home to the largest clean room in North America.

How eavesdropping on a conversation inspired me to live out my faith.

On any given day, hundreds of adults and children work here, sorting through trash, looking for anything they can sell or recycle. On this day in January, I was there with a busload of Timothy students on a Renew trip, delivering much-needed sandwiches and water. Despite our best efforts, we quickly ran out of food. While we were there to meet their physical needs, the eternal value lay in simply being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Renew gives students the opportunity to gain real world experience through immersive internships. These internships often play a critical role in helping students choose a college major and ultimately a career path.

Thirty-six students traveled to Costa Rica and, with the help of some local church members, built two houses!
