The VEX Robotics team competed at Rich South High School on Saturday, November 10. This was the first competition of the year in the State of Illinois. The team won the prestigious Excellence Award, which is the highest award given at VEX competitions. It earned the team a spot at the State tournament in February and at Nationals in April. The Excellence Award is determined by a panel of judges who evaluate the skill of the team driving the robot on the field, evaluate the work of the team in the Engineering notebook which outlines the process of designing the robot, and an interview of the team.
During the competition the team finished the qualifying rounds with a 6-1 record and participated on the number 1 alliance. Teams pair up for the competition to climb platforms, shoot balls at targets, and place disks on poles to score points.
The members of the VEX Robotics team from Timothy Christian are Timothy Helmkamp (captain), Todd Rylaarsdam (primary author of the Engineering notebook), Matthew VanProoyen, Max van den Berg, David Sianghio, Winston Chen, Andrew DeJager, and Andrew Vandermeer.
