“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – Winnie The Pooh

Timothy has been abundantly blessed with amazing staff members. This year, we are sadly saying farewell to four of them. We are grateful for their dedication to our students, excellence in teaching and their years of service.

Mr. Fernandes, Ms. Geisler, Mrs. Humme and Mrs. Van Holland, we send you with our love and prayers for God’s leading in your future!

So long to…..

Name: Stephen Fernandes
Current Title: 8th Grade Science Teacher
Years at TC: 3
Other Activities I’ve been involved in: (coaching, other grades taught, etc.) HS Boy’s Soccer Coach
Favorite Memories: One of my favorite memories was the experience of going down to state. My coaching peers, administration, and parents were so supportive of the team and we really had such a fun time the entire weekend. Winning the state championship was definitely the cherry on top of an awesome state weekend. Another favorite memory of mine was getting to spend time with my peers at CEA. During the conference and in the spare time of fellowship, I was able to develop relationships with some of my peers that otherwise would not have happened. I am sure many of these relationships will continue after I have left TC, and really all of my best memories from my time here at TC are due to the people that I shared them with.
What I’ll Miss Most: Overall, I will miss the relationships I have here and the daily interactions with my peers. For instance, I’ll miss meetings with the 8th grade teaching team and the occasional Dr. Hoeksema appearance at these meetings when he would share some of his best stories. Obviously, I will also miss Friday Treat quite a bit!
Plans after leaving TC: Moving to Uganda, Africa and teaching secondary science at a school for at-risk secondary students.

Name: Katelyn Geisler
Current Title: 4-6 Educational Support Services Teacher
Years at TC: 6
Other Activities I’ve Been Involved in: Student Services Team
Favorite Memories: helping students reach their potentialall the 5-8 band, orchestra, and choir concerts, the 4th grade America program, 5th grade IS night, singing in chapel, staff Secret Santa, and the silly staff songs at Christmas and end of the year.
What I’ll Miss Most: I will miss the amazing Christ-centered community of Timothy Christian, the bright smiles of all my students, sharing a classroom with Anna Watson, problem-solving with the Student Services Team, hanging out with the Brighty boys after school, and teaching and laughing with the amazing 4th-6th grade teachers.
Plans After Leaving TC: God is directing my path back to the Columbus, Ohio area to be closer to my family. I’m on the job hunt and trusting and praying that God will lead me to another teaching job that I love as much as this one!

Name: Stephanie Humme
Years at TC: 5 Years (but many more if you count my years attending TC)  🙂
Other Activities I’ve been involved in: Yearbook, spring and summer camps
Favorite Memories: Field Day, Drury Lane, Read-In Day
What I’ll Miss Most: The amazing students & families at TC!
Plans after leaving TC: Working closer to home

Name: Valerie Van Holland
Current Title: 1st Grade Teacher
Years at TC: 8
Favorite Memories: Watching the “I can read!” light bulb turn on for so many students, hearing first graders sing about standing on God’s promises at the first grade program each spring, and working closely with my dear first grade team
What I’ll Miss Most: Absolutely the TC community-the students, families, and most of all, my colleagues, who also happen to be many of my close friends!
Plans after leaving TC: My family is moving to the Minneapolis, MN area to be closer to extended family. I will not be teaching next year, but instead will be hanging out with my 2 year old, Lucas, and his baby sister (due in August).

And, not a farewell, but a job change…

After 25 years of teaching in our lower elementary department (2nd grade from 1980-84, and 1st grade from 1997 to 2018), Mrs. Sue Weglarz is stepping down from full-time teaching. Never fear, she will still be around next year as a part-time Reading/Phonics Support staff.
