I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California in a loving, Christian home and I attended Christian schools my entire life. I have one older sister. My parents and sister still live in Los Angeles so I enjoy traveling back home to visit! I met my husband, Matt while we were in college and he is a Timothy graduate, class of 1994. We have one daughter named Grace who started Timothy in Pre-school and will be in 4th grade this fall. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I was very active in sports growing up and I LOVED PE! I really looked up to my elementary PE teacher and she inspired me to become a PE teacher myself. I love to spend time with family and friends, explore the city and eat at wonderful Chicago restaurants! I also really love to cook and plan parties and events. I am very passionate about nutrition, health and fitness and I love to workout. I also enjoy encouraging and inspiring others on their health and fitness journey by being a Beachbody independent consultant.
I moved to Illinois to attend Trinity Christian College and graduated with my BA in Physical Education in 2001. I have been and Elementary and Junior High PE Teacher for 11 years total. I taught at Christian Heritage Academy in the North suburbs (near Glenview) for 7 years and then took 5 years off to stay home with my daughter when she was born. I then went back to Christian Heritage Academy and have taught there the last 4 years. I also coached junior high volleyball for 7 years while teaching at Christian Heritage Academy.
Having gone to Christian schools all my life, I am passionate about Christian education. As a Christian educator I am privileged and blessed to be able to put Christ at the center of my teaching. I am thankful that I can teach students from a biblical perspective and provide a Christ centered education so that I can help students to become lifetime followers of Jesus Christ. We are created in Christ's image and because our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit it is my responsibility to take care of it and teach my students how to do the same. God created all of us unique and with different talents. I believe the purpose of PE is to teach the whole student. Physical Education gives me the opportunity to teach students about movement, strategy, teamwork, problem solving, and health related fitness. I want to expose students to various physical activities, sports, and methods of fitness so that students can better enjoy physical activity. I strive to safely provide ways for students to become more confident in their abilities, increase their knowledge of health related fitness, and help them find ways to continue to be physically active for the rest of their lives.

I am thrilled to be teaching here at Timothy! I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Growing up my two brothers and I were blessed to be able to attend the Christian school. After high school the only college application I filled out was for Calvin College. I knew that is where I wanted to go and I guess I was confident enough that I would get in and I did….phew!
When I’m not teaching I love to be outside, to travel and to cook. I have been to four of the seven continents. My brothers and I joke about making it even to Antarctica…maybe someday. I also enjoy playing and watching sports.
I earned my B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Calvin College with minors in math and language arts. After graduating in 2010, I hopped on a plane and traveled to Indonesia. While in Indonesia I taught 3rd and 5th grade and was involved in many extracurricular activities. I was there for three years and tremendously enjoyed my experience, the culture, and the people God allowed me to encounter and grow to love. My first four years here at Timothy I taught 3rd grade. I finished my Master’s Degree for Teacher Leadership from Dordt College in 2017.
An important function of Christian schools is engaging a world that desperately needs God, creating a foundation for students in which to go out into the world and spread the good news. Educational practices at a Christian school are different than any other school. They should reflect a structure of love, faith, and obedience. The learning process is not easy for all. With love as the safety net students are able to explore and find who they are in Christ though education. Christian schools walk beside parents in the effort to create a firm foundation for children. A foundation that is Christ-centered. When education is deeply rooted in faith, students receive holistic education. I am excited to be a part of the legacy Timothy Christian has and look forward to seeing how God works in and through my sixth grade classroom.

I was privileged to grow up in this community and graduate from Timothy Christian in 1993. I believe that my Christian education both here at Timothy and in college has contributed significantly to who I am today. Now as a teacher at Timothy, I desire to provide a similar Christian education experience to other covenant children.
I value my time spent with family and friends and enjoy watching sports, working in my yard, and reading a good book at the beach. I currently live in Lombard with my husband Steve and son Dylan. We are members of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church.
After graduating from Calvin College in 1997, my first teaching job was at Ontario Christian in Ontario, CA teaching first grade. While I enjoyed the California weather, my family was here in the Chicago area so after 3 years I returned to this area and started teaching kindergarten at Timothy in the fall of 2000. My first few years back in the area I worked on my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood at Concordia University and completed my degree in the summer of 2003. After teaching kindergarten for 8 years, I moved into the Preschool Director position here at Timothy. Now I teach all four of the preschool sessions with Nancy Van Hout and Carolee Buikema.
Young children are eager and enthusiastic learners. My role as their teacher is to motivate, encourage, and guide their learning and provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for them. God has not created any two children alike; therefore, each child has different learning needs and I work to include diverse teaching methods to meet these needs.
My classroom is a Christian community for my students. It is a place where God’s love is evident and where love and acceptance of others is developed. Each child knows he is loved and accepted by God and is an important part of our classroom community.
